Some of the 400's had a problem with magnets coming loose from the stator. I have one with almost 4,000 miles, still ok. I think you need to at least inspect the stator and eliminate that. I believe some owners had success epoxying the magnets back in place. Download a parts manual from mymowerparts.com The AC PN for my 2002 is AC PN 3430-001. Could also be a fuse.

In my dyslexic confusion, I meant flywheel. I believe you can epoxy em back on, but should also test stator and cdi box. Could get expensive, or it could be a simple fix with epoxy. You need a special tool to remove the flywheel.

You could also buy a replacement one on eBay, if you find loose magnets and don't feel lucky to do the re-epoxy. Some owners have high miles without an issue, too. Curious what you find.
