<< I figured it out on mine because the star screw inside came loose and the entire shifter handle came off the bike in my hand when I tried to shift! After a few minutes of panick(I thought I broke it off) I was able to put it back on and tighten it back down. >>
LMAO- I did exactly the same thing! My screw was worn to the point that it wouldn't hold, so I 'borrowed' one from work to effect a repair. When your half hung up in the middle of nowhere, and the shift lever comes off in your hand- WELL, you DO get a feeling that ain't pleasant!

Speaking from experience, you can ride your Cat without the shifter handle pretty easily. I almost gotten used to reaching down with my left hand to shift the tranny from forward to reverse. I don't even have to think about which way to move the lever now, comes to me automatically. The lever does get a little hot though if your using it for a while, gloves help.

I finally got the bracket welded back on & all of the plastic & racks re-installed. The Big Cat is back into action just in time for hunting season. I have found that it shifts a little easier if I push the handle to the outside a little. Does anyone every grease the handle were it slides over the hump when shifting into low?
