Default Considering AC 500 4x4 Manual

One of the things that concerns me is the lack of splash protection around the front wheels. Seems like the radiator and lots of unprotected wiring could be exposed to mud/debris splashed up by the front wheels. Anyone have any experiences mud riding with these units? I hunt in Colorado, and the roads get pretty nasty. I currently ride a Honda 300 4x4, and although it has its shortcomings, its been pretty much bulletproof. Any comments would be appreciated.

Also, the dealer quoted me a price of around $5700 (before tax/license). Sound like a good price, or should I try to negotiate a better deal?

TIA

Alcoff95- I own a 400cc AC and when I first got it I checked it out and there was a ton of electrical exposed! What I did was simple and cheap. I bought some liquid electrical tape and covered and filled all exposed connections. But overall Everything else seems good.

I went down and checked them out again today. After another inspection it didn't appear to be quite as bad as I thought electrical wise. I still think they should have incorporated some sort of splash protection for the cooling system.

I think this guy pulled the old "bait and switch" trick on me on the price. I asked him for a hard figure and he came back with just over $6700 before tax/license. I asked him what happended to $5700 and he told me he made an error. He stated the owner would "work with me" tho.

I think that must be their cost on the thing. My Brother in Law bought one not long ago. At first when we were calling dealers, we had a guy that would do $5750 supposedly but didn't have any in stock. He said he was only making 50 bucks on the deal. We never got back in touch with this guy. They said he worked 2 jobs and was only with them part time. Never heard another thing about that price either. Ended up paying $6200 from a different dealership. Which still isn't bad.

Don't give them $6700. Thats higher than MSRP for the manual. Make them come down a good bit on that. They are still making money on it at a cheaper price.

I take my 400 through mud and water all the time and never had a cooling or electrical problem. I never even bothered to look at the wiring.

Thanks all for the input. I made the plunge today for $6300 which included the winch deal. I probably could have gotten another hundred knocked off, but oh well. Maybe I was feeling generous since I got to actually test ride one in the dirt before buying.

Can't wait to take it on a real adventure!

KOD,

Not sure how far your willing to drive, but I got my 02 for 6000 back in summer at Spaulding Equipment in Clover, VA just outside of South Boston. They where the best price I found by a few hundred.

Suggested retail was $6649. I got them down to $6349. They also threw in the labor for the winch install ($130), and also an oil change kit ($29.95) and extra air filter. The best price I could find on the web was $5789, but the place was in MI. A little too far from home for me.
