Broken diff fill plug
#1
I just broke the rear diff fill plug. That thing is made out of pewter (thats what the dealer said). It looks like some kind of rough aluminum. I was turning it by hand with the 17mm socket. It just twisted in half. Anyway, I went to the dealership and for once he said no problem, here ya go.
Lesson for the day--Be very gentle with the diff plugs.

I know what you mean. you are lucky the dealer gave one to you. i just broke the one on my 01 Auto.the new one cost $6 and it feels like it is made of plastic. a while back there was allot of posts about the plug breaking on the 00 - 02 models. this is the first i have heard that a 03 broke.

You might be able to get a brass plug to fit. I will check the threads for pitch and plug taper the next time I change my fluid. That front plug is great fun trying to get it started backinthe hole without cross threading.

i have an '02 500. i broke the rear diff plug last fall. out of commission for a week cause of a 6 dollar part. i took the new one to a machine shop and had two aluminum plugs made. it works great. now i have a good spare just in case the front one breaks.
