Honda Big Red Difference Between 200 & 250
Hi,
Im new to this forum so please bear with me. A buddy had an old Honda Big Red rotting away in his back yard. I have aquired it from him and am in the process of putting it back together. I had it running the other day.
My question is there are a TON of parts on Ebay for these types of 3 wheeler, but what exactly is the difference between the 200 and 250 besides the engine?
Do any of these other parts interchange? Fenders, Forks, Electronics etc...
any help would be appreciated.

None of the plastic interchanges between the 2. The 250 has full suspension where as the 200 only has front suspension. Alot of the 200s have a 10spd tranny, with 5 gears hi and lo in each. The 250 has 5 gears with reverse. The 250 has a detachable headlight, electric start, and a kickstart on the right side. Those are the main differences. As stated above all engine equiptment on the 250 es big red and the sx are the same. The 200s and the 200x engines are NOT the same. Good luck with your buildup. Ps check out threewheelerworld.com for great info.

Thanks for the help. I do believe that I have a 200. Just not sure if it is the 200s or the 200x.
I do know that it does have the high/low range selector on the tranny, it does not have reverse.
It also has electric start, this is about as far as I have gotten in checking things out with the holidays and all.
As soon as I get some more data I will post it and hopefully you guys will be able to tell me more.
Thanks Again...

you have the s or the m. The x has full suspension and is a race and trail trike, It looks alot more sporty also and is usually white plastic and a blue seat with a red front fender. Yours should be all red with racks on the front and back. If not you have a 200m, the m has no racks but isnt as sporty as the 200x. hope this helps.

If it is a 200 Big Red, it is either a 82-83 200e (hi-low subtrans, chain drive, no reverse) or 84-85? 200es (shaft drive w/ reverse). I just restored an 82 200e for a friend, I loved that thing. The 250 is completely different, very few parts swap

I just picked up 3 wheeler, that has a sticker on the forks, Honda 200es 1984. It is chain drive, and does not appear to have a reverse. I thought 1984 was the last year they were made, because They started making the 250ES in 1985, I have seen the 200 Big Red with reverse and shaft drive. What is the deal here?

thats strange, the 1984 200es was shaft driven with reverse. also, the sticker would normally be mounted on the steering neck on the frame, not on the forks, something tells me you may have an 82 or 83 and someone stuck the 84 sticker on the fork, or else the engine and rear end were changed out sometime. 1984 was the first and last 200 Big Red with Shaft drive and reverse. Check for numbers stamped on the frame, on the steering neck where the fork attaches to it, behind the light. run those numbers, and you will have a positive id.
1982 and 1983 were chain driven with the dual range.
btw, if you want the Shaft drive and reverse drivetrain that the 84 would have had, a 84-86 TRX 200 is the same.

If it is electric start, and has hi/lo range and chain drive,..it's a 82-83 200E BigRed
If it is electric start, and has chain drive but does NOT have hi/lo range,..it's a 84-85 200M
No way to confuse the two.
The 1984 ATC 200ES was shaft drive with reverse/hi/lo,..so you can rule that one out.
