On the top end it probabally would but off the start, the ATC would wheelie.
I had an 86 ATC before switching to TRX's and it was hard to keep the front end down.

The TRX motor was detuned from the ATC version, so the ATC being lighter and having more hp would beat it, and the raptor and ds.

My cousin had an 84 with a pipe and silencer.I smoked him on take off and topend, mine was stock. As far as the liquid trikes their motors are the same as the TRX except the transmission (which has a very slight difference). The TRX would smoke the ATC off the line and the ATC wouldn't have any extra power to catch back up.

Durr....if you live in NY, bring your 88TRX and I'll show you off the line power....without a wheelie.

It said in the tech connection that the ATC r motor has more power than the TRX, don't ask me what they changed, just what the tech person said.

How do you make up for the 50+ lbs weight differential?

Plus the swingarms on the ATC's are longer than the 88-89 TRX's, Maybe the 3-wheeler rider you raced wasn't very good - also, you can't even begin to compare an 84 model to an 85-86, totally different beasts, the 85-86 had MUCH more power & much better handling.

Also there are significant differences between the 3-wheeler engine and the 88-89 TRX engine. It is widely accepted that the 85-87 engines had more peak HP than the later 88-89 engines. The 88-89 versions had different porting, a longer rod, the pistons were different, and there were other differences I can't think of.

I added the point about the 84'because its my only experience in drag racing a three wheeler on a regular basis. We were on pavement, usually.Rider skill is very close between him a I,we also traded a couple of times.I just don't see how you can get full power to the ground off the line without looping out an ATC.I'm not bashing trikes I think they are cool as hell,I just think that I myself can get from point A to point B(no matter what lies in between) faster and easier on four wheels than three.
Do you have any hp #'s or differences in specs on the two motors? It would be interesting to see. Does anyone have an old magazine with a shootout?Dirt Wheels or Three and Four Wheel Action must have covered it back in the day.
