1. make sure it's getting it's full potential. is the mixture right, plug clean,
and is it pulling strong all the way through the rpm range. If yes, then . .
2. Make sure your valves are adjusted . . . they can get looser with wear,
which will lose a little power. They can also get tighter as the valve stems
stretch, which will prevent the valves from closing all the way, and also
lose power. So, make sure they have just a tiny bit of play at TDC.
3. If it's running right, and you still need more oomph, you can step up
to a 200x carb and add a pipe. Once you get the jetting sorted out,
this should give you a good increase. Not much point in increasing the carb
size unless you are also changing the exhaust, and probably the airfilter
also. And then you will definitely need to rejet it to get the mixture right.
4. Although I don't know for a fact, I have heard you can use the cam out
of a Honda 4 stroke dirt bike ( did they make an XR or XL 200 ?), and get
more power. You might be able to use a 200X cam, I'm not sure.

Check you web cams, they still sell high performance cams for that machine. If you are looking for top speed get the top end grind, for low end grunt get the lowend profile.
Match that with a valve job (porting) and some heavy duty valve springs.
Then give wesco pistons a call, I'm sure they still make a piston for that bike or the 200xr, I remember they have a 240 kit back in the day with 12:1 compression, make sure your compression release is working, it is a b1tch to start without it.
Match that with a bigger carb and exhaust and take off the airbox and get a uni filter.
I had a 185s back in the days and did a similar set up, that thing ran. I could hit 70 mph (according to a chase bike). Those bikes didn't have rev limiters and could rev to 12,000, so heavy duty valve springs are a must, I found out the hard way, 3 times.

There was once a story of an 84-ATC 200S -- here goes.
We started with a FMF pipe..
Went to a K&N filter
Used a 200X carb
Rear-Suspension / swing arm extension by dirt works (Don't think they exist anymore)
Bore kit (full 200cc's - not 192)
Low pro rear tires and aluminum rims
o-ring chain
axle extenders to make it a bit wider (8")
peg extenders
ice chest rack
gearing for the dry lake bed
This was a great machine ----- until the 85' 250R..

i have an 86 200s and its in great condition other than what remains of the stock plastic. its a great little wheelie machine. sittin in first it will tip right up when you goose the throttle. 2nd and 3rd it will tip up with jsut a little tug on the bars when movin. then on up to 4th and 5th, well bounce the front up and you can do some crazy wheelies. anayhow my exhaust is gettin kinda rusted out(whole bottom). any chance this could improve or hurt the preformance? i dont reely care about the noise. its nice being able to hear my trike over my brothers 350x. i'm happy with the power that i have, i'm prettie shure its right where it was when its new. plenty of power to spin the tires in 1-3. how common is it to have stock chain and sproket on trikes this old? judging by the condition of the trike i'd guess that it was very well maintianed or hardly never used. jsut sat out in the sun for years. one more question. do the stock air box lids have a hole in the top of them pluged with a cork? mine does and i'm kindof wondering what purpos it serves. maby an inspection hole.? i'm impressed how well this thing does in water. i've had it in water over the seat and went right through it. i jsut lean back and let the front tire float on the surface. i've found that if you hit the water too fast you'll either forcefill thee air box with water or skim right across the surface. if the air box ever does fill i get off, let it float to the surface, drain, start, and ride off. well, i guess thats enough BS'n
