I was thinking about getting a z400 for trail riding, but I think i want to start racing. What atv would be good for racing that is same price or less. I also want to be doing some trail riding with my friends though.

THE Z400 WILL BE FINE,BUT IF YOU MX RACE, LOOK INTO AN AFTERMARKET FRAME WHEN THEY COME OUT.

The only problem with racing is that it's extremely addictive...and if you are as competative as me...you keep dumping money into any little thing that you think will help you inch a couple spots closer to the top of the podium...and then there's keeping it running!!! I think the Z would be a fine choice. You might want to seek an aftermarket axle, exhaust, and some frame gusseting around the shock mounts...other than that...that would be a great quad to start out with.

I want to get into racing, right know I have a 1999 honda 400ex. I am going to sell it (I think) What would be a good atv to get for around 5000 or 6000. Should I buy new or used.

They are already out, I got one, and so does WP.

I agree with most everyone else but if you want to be competitive as soon as you leave the dealer then maybe you should get a yamaha yfz450. I know you've seen the many threads about them on here and if you're able to spend $6,000 you could probably manage another $1200 or so for the yfz can't ya. If not get the z400, 400ex, kfx400, or the new artic cat sport. If you're racing open class without the 450cc limit get a predator, ds, or raptor.

If your going to buy a new quad, go with the YFZ 450. Race ready out the door.
