Mini Quad Classification HELP
#1
Trying to set up classes for few ATVs that we race would like some opinions.
Some Quads that are racing
50cc Cobra 2 stroke
80cc Modified 2 stroke Suzuki
2 125cc Typhoons
1 110 Chinese Quad
1 Polaris 90
1 140cc modified
90 Modified 2-stroke
How would you classify all these quad to run fairly? Helping track set up rules. As of the last race they all race and place together. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I would have to say it depends on the #'s that show up. If your participation is down then I would try to let as many different sizes run that you can. Alot of parents in our area get into racing after they get the quad. Then their kids find out/want to try racing and the parents aren't going to spend more money to get another quad if they don't have something that fits the rules. This is until they have a great experience and find out how much of a family atmosphere it can be and they are hooked for life. At our track we divide the kids up by age, 5-8 and 9-12 with a 90cc limit. Anything bigger has to be approved by club official and parents of other riders for that race day only. In some cases permission may be given for the year. We usually have about 12-15 total at our city MX races (both bikes and quads) and run them all at the same time with 2 gate drops with the older kids going first. Usually takes about 4 laps before they start lapping the younger kids and they are spread out nicley by then. Sometimes if quad and bike #'s are down we run them with the 50cc bike class also. Then with experience you can decide who to give 1st gate by who shows up and who is fastest. We are currently trying to decide how big of a 4-stroke to let run in the 90cc mini-qaud class. Don't know that double like the bigger bike classes is going to work. I know there are problems in the 85cc bike class locally with the Honda 150 4-strokes. Currently they run them in a Supermini class with the bored 85's. We need to be thinking of the future with these classes as the 2-stroke is on the way out if we like it or not. Uncle has already decided that for us.
