The poly will slide over obstacales better such as rocks and logs but if there is a lot of slaming into things Aluminum will protect better ,
I had a poly one I made for my warrior for hard woods riding and never broke it ,but you could see some big scratches in it

If I was going to do a lot of racing, I'd consider buying both. Get some longer bolts, and put the poly over the aluminum. The weight gain isn't going to be that much. You'll pick up that much weight in mud alone.

If you know the track conditions before hand, you can always switch back to just the one plate. Provided you're not like me and would lose the original bolts.

Default polyurethane skidplates PLEASE HELP!!!!!

The factory plates on the Polaris' (Polari?) I have are both the poly. I hit a rock pretty hard one time and when I was fixing the chain and sprocket from that, I noticed it put a gouge in the plate. With the aluminum, I'm sure it would have left a dent, but that's all. My concern then was if something were to catch in that gouge, what kind of damage would it do. Bought another poly plate and just doubled it up. Not like you'd notice you added any weight to a Polaris.

It's not the extra weight I'm putting under it that really weighs it down.
