Default First time buyer needs advice

I could really use some help and guidance on which ATV I should get.

I recently sold my XR250, and I am ready to replace it with my first ATV. The machine will be used only for light trail riding and the terrain here in central Florida is pretty much either sand or mud. I am currently leaning towards a 2-wheel drive sport utility type like the Polaris Trail Boss 330 or possibly the Kawasaki Lakota 300 (mainly because of the size and price). While I am not interested in an all out performance machine I do want it to have enough power to carry my 225lbs and be able to throw some dirt around for fun.

All thoughts and suggestions are very much appreciated.

Well, to me personally mud = 4x4. Very sporty 4x4 equals these: Yamaha Wolverine ( with a Warn 424 unlocker) and Polaris Scrambler 500 4x4. There are many many posts by myself and others on these two quads.

They Wolverine is a good quad but if you just want a 2x4 a warrior or Z400 would work well

go with a 400 ex, great quad, not too much power that you could get in trouble with, and are not too expensive.

Jeez, didn't you say you didn't want to pay much?! Come on guys, give this fellow a break!
I have the Polaris TrailBoss 330 and its a great machine. You can go thru mud and sand with it.
You don't have to pay alot of money for those other machines. But I would buy the Polaris instead of the
Lakota for your size.
Good Luck.

If not for your size, I'd suggest either the Honda Recon or Suzuki Ozark, but 225 lbs can make a 250cc somewhat less sporty. If you want to buy new you may be able to get a closeout deal on some '03 models. 2wd Eigers or Ranchers MSRP in the low 4K range. It's possible you may be able to deal down once the '04's start arriving in the showrooms.

Off topic - So who's gonna win that ballgame this weekend?
