Hey, why are the Japanese companies keeping their big bore(ing) utilities down to 600 pounds, but the North American companies (BRP, Polaris, and A Cat) seem to think that 700+ pounds and up is acceptable??? They just don't want to do the difficult/creative engineering necessary to get the things lighter!

I will always bad mouth bad designs!!!

Hello,
I got my wolverine 450 4x4 2 weeks ago for $5299.99 + tax - $5745.00 out the door.

I have had it out trail riding a few times, and have put 65 miles on it soo far. It is actually a really good trail bike, and does not make me nearly as tired as riding a warrior, blaster, 300ex, and my Mojave (powered by a twin cylinder Suzuki GS425 engine. The automatic transmission took a while for me to get used to since all my other motorcycles and atv;s have had a clutch. I can ride this bike all day and not get tired, mostly our trails are 30-35mph top speed in the good spots, lots of tight hilly terrain. I keep up with my friends fine, and some wish they could keep up with me. In the woods i can with the all my fiends sport quads fine. But when the going gets rough and they get stuck, i push the Magic Button (on-command 4WD).

I can recommend the Wolverine 450 4x4 to anyone who trail rides a lot and/or does light utility work, other people in my age group (35+), and anyone looking for a great all around atv. If you want to race, ride in the dunes or wide open praire, or want to jump over 3-4 feel high - get another ATV - the wolverine is not for you.

I stay very clean and dry do to the floorboards and the big, swoopy fenders - even when riding in the creek. It also is a very easy to ride quad, and my wife likes it more than any other one she has ever ridden. If you corner too fast, it is not to hard to pull up one of the rear tires due to the staight axle, but you must be riding aggressively for that. The stock Maxis Radials, kick butt - they have awesome grip, so i seldom use 4x4.

And for when the 55mph top speed of the wolverine doesn't cut it for the long open ohio corn fields, i still have my Twin Cylinder GS425 Kawasaki mojave - with a 6 speed for that. It is faster than i will go on a atv. I am getting older about 70mph does it for me. In the dunes I might go faster, but we have no dunes in Ohio.

BRP doesn't make a 700 lb quad.

First one I looked up, the 800 comes in at 689 pounds DRY, only 11 pounds short of 700. I didn't look up any other models, because then I would be nauseated for the rest of the day if I did........

The standard Outlander comes in at 630. Nauseated the rest of the day, bothers you that much? ROFLMAO, dude, get over yourself.

So tell us, if Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki, Kawi, Polaris, A/C, and BRP's engineers haven't figured out how to make these quads very much lighter then tells us what they should do.

Geezus, you sound like a freaking broken record.

So what you're basically saying then reconranger is that the only company for 2006 who puts out a "standard" sport quad is Yamaha.

Honda 450ER - 370
Honda 400EX - 386
Zukie LTR450 - 368
Banshee - 386lbs

I won't even mention the Raptor, predator and DS all of which are heavier still.

Congrats to yamaha for making the only "sport" quad which conforms to the standard!! YFZ450.

LOL, smoke anything huh? Can you specify in what form of competition it will be doing this, a mud bog?

the 04/05 TRX450R wieghed about 350-353lbs. you are quoting the ER edition which weighs more. i dont know why it took honda 20lbs to add a e-start and yamaha can still do it at 350....but the point i think is clear- 350-380 is about the standard right now. but you see the heavier models in the sport world are striving to be as light as possible. the banshee will be gone in 2007. polaris cant even get the predator to that....its 415lbs.

to me - preferrably the lighter the better - for any bike.

take a spin on a 330lb 250R and you will see a tremdous difference.

i do agree with recon about these things weigh too much and yes i can give you factual information on the number of deaths and injuries that occur each year..guess what on: BIG @SS utility bikes. most people have a ute around the house, they get hurt and injured by them all the time. i work in healthcare, i know.

person examples: last year a friend of friend got killed on big ute. last novemeber a neighbor girl was killed on one, last month a freind of mines kid was killed on one so dont say they are safer when all they are are roll over death traps. maybe when you find yourself pinned under 700lb machine struggling for air as you are getting burned you will realize this.

i really, honestly hope that never happens to you; i drammatize it to maybe help you see the picture.

its illogical to think that if you have and accident, you are safer on a big bike...that strategy works with cars, not atvs.

Call a dealer called " Track N Trail" in State College, PA, 814-237-2581, ask them to e mail or fax you a quote and you can take that to ur local dealer to see if he could match the price. I don't know the price of the Wolverine, but they are selling the 350 Bruin for $3999, and the Grizzly for $6199

i got mine today for 5500 otd and only put about 10 miles on it but i love it. it performs way better than i thought it would. nobody can bad mouth this thing until they ride it. and you have to keep in mind that its not a racing quad and its not supposed to weigh 350 lbs and go 70 mph!
