For the wife, a Honda 250EX makes an excellent starter machine! If you need more of a "utility" type ride (big fenders for mud protection and racks), then the Honda Recon is a good choice. (Just for the record the 250EX is based on the Recon, but is a sweet 50 pounds lighter.)

My friends who have bought the "off brand" machines......have mostly lived to regret it! For a 12 year old, I suggest a Honda 90....it's the best kid's machine out there. I you are on a budget, you are better off taking you chances with a used Honda than any of the "off brands".

just curious what honda dealer do u work for?

I was going to buy the Polaris Pheonix for my wife and the sales man told me "I can give you one real cheap, but it's a piece of sh*t" he said they have lots of them come back (not just '05s). He told me no one has had problems with the Can Am 250 and it was only $300 more. Glad I go the Can Am for the wife, well worth the extra 300 bucks.

I used to have a couple of polaris trailblazer 250 2 strokes. They are really nice quads, just a little low on power at altitude. I bet they would really do well in arkansas (i'm from there).
