Default What to look for in used sport quads

In the continuing search for our first atv's we have been looking at the used market. Because of the size difference between my wife and myself (5' vs. 6'5") it has been a challenge to find a smaller quad that she can handle, yet will be able to keep up with something larger. What we are currently looking at is something along the lines of the Honda 250ex for her and the 400ex for me. Other similar options would be the Suzuki z250 and z400. The Hondas have been out for a while longer. There are several '00, '01', and '02 Hondas available in the area, but I don't want to get someone else's problem or spend all my time fixing instead of riding. The question is: How old is too old in a used (not used up) sport quad? What are some tip or things to watch out for when looking at used sport quads? We appreciate your input. Thanks!

Both the Honda's will tolerate a lot of neglect, so if all the previous owner did was change the oil and occasionally adjust the valves, they have probably survived.

The Z400 has a good reputation as well.

One thing about the 250 is that it has limited suspension travel, and one can tire of it quickly. So, also look at a 300EX or even a Blaster if she is willing to use a clutch.

get a bike with no problems ask if you cam test ride it if they say no then theres probably a problem with it also check the front and rear sprockets to see if theres any teeth curling and see how loose the chain is if the chains loose that means the bike was most likely abused as in maintenance
