Buying a 90 cc machine
How old is he? My son is 10 and the ds90 was not enough for him. Now he has a raptor 250. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OoxOi81Ld40 Not much to see in video, was pretty much a test run before I take him to the trails. Better video to come in the near future along with some ktm 525xc action!
I don't encourage anyone to think that the raptor 250 is a kids quad as its pretty powerful for its size and you can see from the video I have the throttle screw almost all the way in.

He is 7. He drives my dad's rubicon and rancher with me on the back with it is 2nd gear. I am not wanting him to jump, race etc.... Just go with me on relaxing rides through the trails in the woods and private road in Upper Michigan. Reverse isn't a must but would be nice, being able to control top speed is good and something I won't need to take in for service!

HONDA! They last forever, and are as tough as nails.
My kids grew up on ours. I sold one of them to a relative and his kids are riding the tires off it. Kept the other around for guests we have that might have kids, but I think I'll hang on to it for the grandchildern some day.....

For 7 I say go with a 90 and throttle it down with the adjustment screw. Might have to order a spare break lever and bend it so that he can reach it easier. The new ds90 has wide a-arms and would probably have less time on 2 wheels. Good thing about kids quads is they hold there value pretty good. When your ready to sell it in a couple years you won't have to loose and arm and a leg on it maybe just one limb
