Looking to buy a quad with selectable 4wd and 2wd. Riding trails and rockey powerlines. Trying to get something used for around 5,000. What do you suggest?

why spend that much for a used quad I live in Pittsburgh Pa. and a local dealer has 2002 Big Bear 400 for 4700.the new big bear has selectable 2or 4 wheel drive good ground clearance and 6 inches of wheel travel. It is also lighter than similar machines.

I would go check out the Arctic Cat line up if I were you. For that much money you could get a new one, from the 300-400cc range. If you are going to be riding in the rocks the A/C is an excellent choice either independent or ACT suspension.
Good Luck on your Quest

Cummins-

Yeah, I thought about arctic cats. Look like real powerful machines. But, how are they with speed/acceleration. Want something fun, but will climb over and get out of mud holes.

mdkx,

Well, if your looking for pure speed, the AC probably won't thrill you. These are utility machines first and foremost. They will have no problem getting you out of the mud (and pulling your buddies out too!), but they won't get you there very fast. I know I have seen guys with a AC375 Auto hit 53 with GPS, but that was tops.

Personally, I don't think speed is all that important. The trails we have to ride on in Western PA really don't call for speed, they call for good suspension and a great ride. The AC delivers these better than just about any other. Check out the 400i or 500i for independent suspension models, and check out the AC forum. There are tons of posts with pics and stories about what these machines can do.

I guess it really comes down to what you like, but for the money your talking about, you can get a NEW AC.

Just my 2 cents. Good luck.

He MDKX, sorry for taking so long. But it looks like Jburglund done covered it for me. If speed is your thing I would look somewhere else. But from your first post it sounded like A/C might fit the bill. For technical type riding and the cost makes them look pretty good.
