Hey,everybody,

Just sold my son's 98 Recon,he was itching for something more sport oriented, my question is this: He is 12, tall, and weighs 135, rides very well ( loves to jump and hill climb ) he wants to keep up(or pass) my Wolverine on the trail, so what do you recommend? Please, no brand flaming, just first hand experience. He hasn't run a manual clutch much, but is a quick learner, so I was thinking something like these quads : Blaster, quick, light, but no luxuries like reverse or electric start. 300ex : great handling, electric start and reverse, Lakota: more fender coverage than full sport, but still very quick and sporty looking, plus still auto clutch. Any other recommendations,or input on the above brands? Thanks for any help!!

Honda 300EX is an awesome machine, and Hoda makes a dependable one, also.

I got my son (9) a 250ex.He loves it!He rode a recon before we got 250ex.The 250 mach. is just like the recon so there was know prob.for him to get use to. The 250 tops out at about 50-55mph.,jump,and climes great. If I could say a bad thing about the 250 it would be that they are tippy. We put 2/12in. spacer on the back(durablue fiberlite) they helped a lot.All in all they great beginer bikes.

If he is into sporty looks and wants to stay with the auto. clutch, then go with the Lakota

If he wants a clutch, go with the 300EX.

Don't overlook the new Suzuki Ozark 250. It might not look sporty, but after finally getting to take one out like I wanted to a couple of weeks ago, this thing will out perform and out handle even the 250EX offered from Honda. Because it has racks and looks like a utility quad, this thing will fool you in a second.
