Needle valve on the float not seating...grr help
Hightower informed me that this was one of my problems because there is fuel coming out of my float vent/overflow hose. My bike is also running a lot richer than it was when I first got it (april 23).
Maybe I messed something up when I opened up my carb or something. I don't know.
Can somebody please explain in detail how do I fix this?!?
And if this is the case, this it mean for sure that I have gas in my oil? If not, how do I check if I do? And finally, if I do, do I need to change the oil ASAP, or will it not hurt anything?!?
I had a trip planned for next weekend...And the 150 main jet I ordered should be arriving tomorrow. I'm not sure if I'm going to need to put it in...We'll see.
But anyway, please help the best you can.
Note : Using a RWR TM-45 with 155 Main, 40 Pilot and 96 needle on 2nd leanest clip (2nd clip from top).
Thanks A Lot guys
Jeff

Needle valve on the float not seating...grr help
remove the carb so you can sit at a bench comfortably to screw with the delicate parts, and not lose any of the tiny stuff.
remove the bowl and notice the little needle valve the float moves up and down. this needle valve moves up and down in a seat. the float and needle can be removed by simple pushing out the pivot pin the float hinges on. check that the needle and the seat it sits in to block fuel flow are clean and not damaged. if they look fine, it may be the o-ring that the seat seals with. remove the seat, being careful that all this stuff is delicate, and you will see the o-ring that wraps around it to seal it to the carb body. this rubber o-ring failed on my Tm45 too, and I replaced it with a new one from the hardware store for like 19 cents. remember that the o-ring is metric not inch so get the right one, don't try to force one that is too fat, but don't get one too thin either. put it on around the seat, grease it to ease reinstallation into the carb body without damaging the new o-ring. even if the o-ring looks okay, it still may be the culprit - mine looked fine but it was the source of my leak.
Also, check float level - do this first to see if its your problem, and last before putting the bowl back on to make sure you didn't disturb it. float level is the measurement from the carb's bottom surface to the bottom of the float - it should be 18mm on the tm45.
one of these is you problem with your overflowing near as I can tell, and the overflowing is how its getting in your oil while the bike is not running. you'll want to change your oil and plugs after correcting the overflowing.
good luck.

Okay, I was about to open up the carb when I noticed gas was not leaking from the vent tube when I let it hang this time...
Is it normal for gas to flow out of both vent lines (one on float bowl and other on side of carb body) when turning on the fuel after draining the bowl. It stops flowing once I start the engine and then it doesn't seem to leak afterwards. Is this normal, and if it doesn't leak all the time, does it mean i'm okay?!?
