Gearing for a DS?? 100mph?
#21
Mmmmkay. I put in the numbers for the gearing calculator for 17/38 on 22's.
At 8400 RPM it gives 101mph. So, if Johnny's or any DS for that matter will pull 8400 RPM with 17/38/22 gearing...IT IS GOING 101 MPH NO MATTER WHAT. IF THOSE TIRES ARE NOT SPINNING AND THE CLUTCH IS NOT SLIPPING, WIND OR NO WIND, UPHILL OR DOWNHILL, HE IS GOING 101 mph...That is a scientific fact.
The only question is...will the DS wind 8400 RPM with such gearing...that..is another question.

Tyrespinner.....that has already been discussed....we know on paper this is possible. My point was in the real world this is not possible. BTW guys....don't take my comments personal....I enjoy a little back and forth conversing.

not to say im right or wrong, but i ran with an XR650 set up for desert racing and it had a speedometer, i was on my original 720 and he said he was tapped out doing 100MPH we buried the speedometer we were neck to neck and i had 16-40 gearing with 22 inch tires...could the speedometer have been wrong??? it was brand new and supposivly dialed in...WHAT UP????

Take a look at this power curve for the DS stock....here. Notice at 7900 the engine is pulling about 33 horses....how much do you think it will loose up too the rev limiter? Guarantee at least 5hp. Now you have a 28 horsepower engine at the rev limiter....theoretically. Is 28 horses gonna push a 500 pound machine + rider too the rev limiter in the real world....no possible way.

K, finally were on the same page with that...
But your arguing something that has been proven by many DS riders. BillDS650 even said so...he knows his stuff
