Default should i take the baja in for jetting?

went to a local bike shop to see howmuch it would be to properly jet my bike. I was quoted about 186.00. This would include checking the valves. I've jet it myself but feel like i can get more out of it. It pops when i release the throttle and doesn't feel like a smooth acceleration. Is this a waste of money, is this what it normally cost to do this kind of work, or should i keep playing with it. I believe i have the 180 main jet and about 2 1/2 turns on the fuel screw. I'm running a pipe, filter, lid box closed.

i jetted it back in nov. but i believe that i put the clip on the second notch from the top. and it did seem a litlle steep but i figured at least i'll know that it was done right(hopefully). how often should the valves be checked, and should i just have some better ones installed while he's in there?

I would recommend playing with the jetting yourself. There are alot of people on this forum that are VERY knowledgeable about jet settings. With only the four screws it takes to change them out, you could save your money for a better mod. As far as the valves go, that was one of my questions to. Should i change out my valves when I get my valve check done?

I don't know the answer to that, but i think i will wait until i get a high compression piston and cam installed.

Good luck

Sounds like you're rich on the main and lean on the needle.

I think clip in second from BOTTOM and a 170 would do much better.

When using lid and snorkel tubes jetting should be VERY close to stock, i would suggest looking at dynojet papers and go down one groove with clip and up one size main from what it says is settings for stock.

Removing lid is when big changes need to be made, but not really worth it though.

Absolutely no need to change valves! Usually you lose clearance due to the valves initial seating, after first shim job after break-in they should be fine for a long time. I plan on checking mine once a year.

i agree with dcryder, i have the same mods as you, and 180 is way too rich. i'm running a 170 right now but may go back to 172.5
