How does a DS650 stack up against a Raptor 660? I want to get a nice big bore machine, and I love the looks of the DS. A friend of mine already has a Raptor, which feels pretty quick. Will the DS stay with it? How are they for trail riding, jumps, and wheelies?

If your not afraid of a bigger machine, I would go with the DS.

The DS has no problem staying up with a rappy(unless your racing in reverse) And the new DS's have been narrowed alittle ,and shortened a tad. These changes were made for the trail rider. The DS in BIULT TOUGH, and the Rotax 650 engine is one of the most reliable engines made period!

i own both and if you are talking stock for stock the ds is faster in almost any situation than the raptor.jumps on the ds are are better in my opinion but then again i take full advantage of the extra travel the ds offers because i am 260 lbs.as far as wheelies are concerned the raptor wins that one but if you practice the ds is not bad it just has a higher balance point than the raptor.i find that if you ride the trails as if you are on a smaller machine and forget about the extra width you have the ds does as good as anything.we ride on some very narrow sand trails lined with trees that are very tight and i feel very comfortable on the ds at any reasonable speed.i would also add that the overall fit and finish on the ds is far better than on the raptor and it is built like a tank(A VERY FAST TANK).

 

well i wrote a whole post on this but it must have got lost , the new 04 ds is much better than the older models it is as fast as my stage two the rev limiter works great, it wheelies it is just a really nice machine stock i know there are better things on the older version but over all i'd pick the new ds hands down over the older ds and i would hav picked the older dsover the raptor, mainly due to the transmission thing and after talking to many happy raptor owner they complain there to hard to work on, other than that there fun also.

 

Thanks for the input guys. I definately like the looks of the DS better. What would be a good price for a brand new one? I finally found a dealer not too far from here that wants $6,700 for the Baja. Is that a good price?

This is a Bomb forum so you will only get 1 type of vote. consider your body size and riding environment, and riding style. That should help determine which quad. A test drive would also clear up the matter. I like both myself. But my lastest purchase is a KFX700.

 

$6700 is too much. The new prices have been reduced.

 

Id go with the raptor only because i live where all we do is ride power lines and extremely tight trails. Depends on the riding the ds is definetly faster than a raptor but its big to throw around. when i rode one it seemed no where as near as tippyt as my raptor and the corneering seemed a hell of alot better.
