On the EGT's, it will depend on how far away the probe is from the piston.

I have been told that if the probe is 4 to 6 inches away from the piston, you don't want to see temps over 1200 degrees.

Dune Devil is correct. Put the probe about 4" away from the head. You want to run at wide open throttle at about 1250 to 1280 degree's. Your piston starts it's melting point at 1300 degree's. This is the best way to tune in a 2-stroke and I haven't figured out why I haven't done it yet?!

Which pipe do you put the egt sensor in at 4" from the exhaust manifold?

I HAVE AN O2 BUNG ALREADY IN THE PIPE WHERE THE TWO FRONT PIPES COME TOGETHER. I TOOK A BUNG PLUG AND DRILLED THE MIDDLE FOR THE EGT PROBE. SO THE PROBE IS PROBALLY 12 INCHES FROM THE PISTON. WILL THIS STILL WORK?

No the probe needs to be at the tip of the exhaust flame. The closer to the tip of the flame the more accurate the reading.

They should be around 1000 at idle or so. Just jet accordingly to the condition. You want to run cooler at idle an then drive around half throttle and watch it. Like I said you want those temps to be as close to 1300 with out going over. You want to stay between 1200 and 1300 from off-idle all the way to full throttle.
