Default inside out..

I did this to my 400ex b4 I sold it. it was more stable, but for a price, it made the steering more heavy and tight corners wernt as good. it had to do with the center of the wheel not being over the spindle.like other post said its a leverage thing. try it let us know how you like it

I see you have an '04 DS, don't they come with 10x5's up front now? I have an '01 DS that came with 10x6's which when mounted inside out were just too wide so I bought some ITP 10x5's & inverted them......nice cheap way to get about 52 inches out of the front end. Not recommended for the stock 10x6 wheels though. With the 10x5's it basically gives you a 2+3 offset instead of 3+2 which is the same setup as performance offset wheels give.

No abnormal wear & tear on ball joints or any other steering or suspension component to speak of. You will have to install a new valve stem on the other side and take the curent one & simply install it inside out, some folks like to weld or epoxy the hole where the old stem was but it's simpler to just invert the stem. The whole offset thing is pretty simple although I may get it backwards but you'll get the picture......if a wheel is 10x5 with a 3+2 offset this means 3 inches of the wheel is on the bike's side of the hub and the other 2 inches are how much the wheel sets off the hub. When you are inverting a 10x5 wheel that is 3+2, you simply get 2+3 (one additional inch per side) but if you invert a stock wheel that is more like 4+2, then you get 2+4 which would be a little much on the ball joints. I really don't recomend inverting stock wheels because of the drastic increase in width which really isn't doing it correctly. Spacers might be your most cost effective means of widening your DS.
