Default Aftermarket Grab Bars

For those of you who have an aftermarket grab bar, which one did you buy & why?

I don't think I can use a six pack rach because of how I haul my ATVs on the trailer. So I'm thinking I'll go with this one from PRM:

PRM Wide Grab Bar

Has anyone seen this one? The picture sucks & makes it look bad however I'm hoping that the unit is decent in person. I like the way the flag mount is welded on two sides, this is especially important for me since I have a very stiff flag that is actually made for a buggy not a quad. (I know, it'll break if I ever roll it, however what flag wont break?)

Thoughts, opinions, comments, flames?

PRM sells it for $45.95 anyone know another place to pick it up? any of our forum members selling something similar?

They are in Oregon, so that should be 2-3 day shipping from UPS, not too bad I guess.

Thats the Baja grab bar, they also make a great Desert grab bar, which I like better. I know LOTS of people with both. The finish isn't polished, but you can polish it, like I did. PRM is a great company. You'll have no problems.

i have the prm standard on both my ds's, bigslim has one on his baja the desert one i think. anyways all three have been on the bar from wheelies and none of them seem worse for it. last time out slim was chasing his quad it went over and went back down and took off without him it was heading out to sea kind of funny. it's one of the joys of wheeling on the beech

Thanks for the info & stories! I remember chasing my Mojave once as it motored itself away from me a couple of years back - I never ran so hard in my life. As I recall, it was even heading for some sort of drop off that would have been not-so-good!

I examined the Desert Bar that Marky spoke of & I like the Baja one slightly better because of the tubular shape at the curve. When I had my LT250R I had an AC Racing Six Pack Rack with the tubular bend & I recall using that as a hand hold quite often & I think it would be easier on the hands than the desert bar. It is hard to say though, I may buy the Baja & later wish I had the Desert. Lucky for me I've got two DS' so if I later decide I want the Desert I can buy it & then swap between machines.

To polish these things I should just find aluminum polish then ally a lot of elbow grease, correct? I've never ever tried to polish anything so I don't know how much work is involved however I am very interested in the idea. I'm starting to think my Baja DS would look good with lots of extra polished goodies & a matching set of king shocks!

Polish? To polish them to shine like new wheels, you're gonna need a buffing wheel and bar polish. If you dont have that, then very very fine wet/dry sand paper and follow up with a liquid polish.

I have the desert, on the ds and the Baja on the raptor, I think the desert sticks out a little farther than the Baja, they are both nice

I ordered the PRM Baja grab bar last night from their website.

Now I need to get specifics on what I need to polish it:
-----
"buffing wheel and bar polish. If you dont have that, then very very fine wet/dry sand paper and follow up with a liquid polish."
"sand paper then polishing wheel then liquid."
-----

A buffing/polishing wheel - will a dremel work as a substitute, or do you think that would be too small for a job this size? (what tip am I looking for I assume the soft padded tip is ideal?) What is bar polish vs. liquid polish?

What grit wet/dry sand paper am I looking at for this, 400, 600, 1000? (I haven't checked what is available so I'm just tossing out numbers.) I assume you start with dry sanding then move into wet sanding? Then use the dremel or buffing wheel, lastly use aluminum polish, right? At that point it should shine up pretty well or am I missing a step?

Sorry to harass you guys, but the idea of polishing this thing sounds nice. Now I'll probably have to start getting everything polished.
