Default FUEL TANK VENT LINE PLUGGED BETTER CHECK IT!

My 2003 DS650 hasn't run very well since I got it back from the Dealer. I finally pulled off the fuel tank and found that the VENT LINE had been crimped and wasn't venting the tank. I was getting a Vapor lock and the bike would run for a BIT then quit. Secondly, it was at times impossible to start unless I used STARTING FLUID and then it would run and stop. Sometimes it would run for 10 minutes and then quit. It acted real weird. If your having stops and stalls I'd check this vent line. Beware this damn VENT HOSE is about 5 to 6ft long and this isn't neccessary to be this long. I got another neopreme hose and ran it downward and back towards the Swingarm. I tie-wrapped it gently so as not to crimp it.

I stronglly suggest everyone pull off the Tank and see if the VENT is crimped. Once I fixed the vent hose the bike now runs great and I don't have any starting problems.

Good Running, be safe and help others when you can!

Regards,

Had the same problem (wouldn't you know it. . . after dropping it off at the dealer!)

I picked up a little gas line check valve (I think James Lucky had them.) Cut that line way down and haven't had a problem since.

Glad to hear you got it working. annoying little problems like that are seriously unneeded stress. I opted for the IMS 5 gallon fuel tank just after I got my Baja, I'm really happy with it since I'm never worried about running out of fuel. The IMS tank uses a vented fuel cap which needs a vent hose like all of the other ATVs & Dirt bikes in the world.

A vented gas cap with a one way valve is much MUCH better. That hose will only come back to bite you in the long run.

I bought a billet gas cap as well as oil res cap, rear brake res cap, and front brake res cap. I think I got them from graydon about 2 years ago.
