You're right about the 44mm thing. Although that is only a guess based on the amount of slide travel a carburetor will have, which will be different per carburetor. I'm going with the moose throttle that MrHP suggests - I'm sure if he sells it with the carb it has the required travel. I haven't seen the specs on the Moose Racing throttle, so I dunno if it's labeled the same as the others (as in up to 44mm.) If you want to see a pic of the moose racing billet thumb throttle look in busmechanic's picture page.

If you get a stock thumber to pull a 48mm open, you've hollowed it out real good. I grinded and polished so it would pull a 46mm open and still be sealed. At 48mm, you would have to expose internal parts, and for me, the sand and dirt would jam it up.
Also, a stocker pulling open a 48mm would be HUGE thumb travel. The 46mm on the stock thumb was a real long throw for me as well. The moose got me back to stock thumb throw with a 46mm.
But I think I could dremel a moose to 48mm though.......
