Basically, you are taking a 50w bulb out and adding a 100. You are really only adding 50 watts to the stock system.

Were did you get the xenon from?

It may be only 50W, but at 12V that's a fairly good chunk of current. Over 4A. It may not be a problem, but then again .. I'm not sure what the load is on the baja X stator either. Shouldn't be too great.

If you really want to shed some light on this situation and save weight, check this out---www.lightforceusa.com/rmdl240.html

240 Blitz
100-watt Xenophot Bulb/1,000,000 candlepower
9.5-inch Diameter
Focus from a Pencil Beam to a Spot
Shatterproof Construction
Lightweight - Only 32 Ounces
Easy Installation
Double the Versatility with Filters

I have bulbs that draw 35-50-75watts... I also found a way to mount these particualr lights... I payed $300 to have these types of lights welded and mounted w/bracket and wireing install (what a waste)... I eventually took bumper off completely, re-drilles out the holes in frame just a bit more and WALLA!!! save 6-7 lbs and can see REAL good..

Let me know what you guys find out.
I put 80/100 Xnons in my wifes Grand Cherokee & also changed the wiring harness to the headlights for the extra draw. The bigger guage wire adds power too. The headlights look like HID's. Not blue, pure white with the harness.

Wonder how a Sylvania Silverstar would do in the DS?

I try to gauge my concern on wattage, not amps. If I were to convert the 12vdc power to 115vac and run the bulb at .45amp , it would still be the same load on the wire, connectors and stator, but for some reason it just doesn't sound near as bad. Convert it to 5vdc and the 10Amps, and it starts to sound scary....its all still 50watts.

The extra charging system capacity of the Baja was a definite selling point for me, but I don't think I would add a cigarette lighter just to see if it would support it.

But to keep it in perspective, if we were talking about adding a 50 watt load to my Raptor, I would throw a meter on a few connections to check some current draws before plugging the item in.

I knew I could twist this into another key feature comparison for something the Bomb has that the Raptor don't.

Hillbilly, thanks for screwing up my world. I spent 45 minutes reading bulb lables today trying to find the 135w highbeam on a 60w draw. Pep Boys had a 60/55 but it was comparable to 100/90. Now I got to find a place with the PIAA bulbs in stock....

ANNIHILATER, you're out of control. If I ran up the hill as fast as you do at night, I would have 10M candlepower lighting my path.

Just got my first inside track mag from Harbor Freight. #219 In it are three Xenon bulbs----- 60/55 watt h4 2for $7.97-----80 watt 9006 2 for $9.97------65/55 watt 9007 2 for $9.97. Its my understanding that once you pay 10 dollars to join the inside track club you can access it on the internet. At these prices it might be worth it to join. I'm gonna get them and try them in those baseball size fog lights. That are also in the same mag for $13.97. Pep boys and other part stores want as much as $40.00 for.

Hey - I was right about the lower ones being H3s! So what model bulb are the 2004s using in the main headlight?

Just tested my new H4 (60/55 = 100/90). I can see for miles and miles, or about a 1/4 mile, which ever comes first. Basically lit up a hill that is a "measured" 1/4 mile away. Pretty impressive beam and with the 55w lower lights, the path looked well lit.

Got to love the Pep Boys APC bulbs, 2 for $30. Now to see if they're trail tough.

Bartlett -- I saw that, you're out there. 270w of light has got to be close to insane.

I'll understand the level of insane once I get mine in the dunes next weekend. If it ain't stupid bright, I may be looking into the Bartlett type of setup.
