help needed with oil light

Default help needed with oil light

Hi, I just bought a 2000 DS 650 yesterday and was riding it last night in the rain. Now I checked some other posts about the problem with the oil light staying on, and one said that it could be from getting wet. But today is a nice sunny day and I've been riding it, and the light still comes on. Also, last night when it came on, I wasn't looking and added way too much oil, which i drained out today. Maybe that was the problem? Thanks for the help.

never run the motor with that light on!

Scooby makes a good point that you SHOULD NEVER DRIVE with the oil light on. If you want to have a bad day, seize your engine and that will do it for you. You need to take it in and have it checked out unless you can fix it yourself. If you are concerned about the cost of doing this, consider the cost of a new engine. Who knows, it could just be something simple, but it is the smart thing to take it in and get it checked out.

I have had so many of those oil preesure sensors go bad I dont even remember how many. If they get any water in them they go bad. go to the dealer and buy like 3 or 4 of them than get the rubber boot they make to cover the sensor. It helps alot but still isn't full proof. Better to have extra's than to have one go out on a trip and your no sure wheather to keep riding or not. Also when you wash it, cover it with a plastic bag and electrical tape to keep any water out.

i learned the hard way about that light last may just after i bought it 2nd ride i put it on its back on a hill no big deal didnt hurt nothing but when it started up the light was on , i knew it had oil and it didnt seem hot so i idled it around thinking it must be a little warm 5 min i toasted the crank, that really sucked rode it twice. it sais right in the manual about air locks in the oil line if its put on its back. its not hard to bleed the system if that ever happens again.
