Default Will the newer plastic fit on the older models?

Its a 2005 DS 650 X, I had flipped it in a parking lot this summer, when it was only 3 weeks old. Major road rash on the rear fender and nose peice, almost cracked the rear bumper off, bent my handle bars around the gas tank, cracked and wore away the end cap tips, but the seat and the front head lights were all good, amazing because the plastic is deeply scratched right above the head light. My DS looked pretty funny for a week untill I got ever thing fixed. It only cost about $300 to fix, the most expensive thing being the break cable. I was all right just some minor scatches, luckly I was in full riding gear.

Just thought I would share this as I had posted the following at ExtremeGarage:

I had contacted Parker Yamaha about this very thing I thought I would share the quote and email with everyone here. I also thought it was worth mentioning that I emailed Parker the quote Sunday morning and had a response by lunchtime.

--------------

I have looked up the stock replacement body parts for your 2001 DS650 and the prices. Prices are valid on mail order basis only. The stock parts come in Yellow only.

705000273 Front Fascia (Nose) 79.64
705000276 Gas Tank Cover 25.11
709200037 Radiator Protector 15.93

705000302 Foot Protector LH 11.97

Which I responded with:

I have been told that 00-04 DS bodywork is all the same as far as fit and bolt patterns, any insight into this? Is red available?

His response was:

From looking at the parts fiche'. It appears as though the plastics are similar on 2001-2004 models although I am unable to confirm this with bombardier. If you choose to attempt to use parts from a different year model you will assume responsibility for all costs which might be involved such as shipping, restock fees, etc. That being said, here are the color choices available.

2001 black or yellow
2002 black or yellow
2003 black or orange
2004 black or orange.

Thanks,

Dion
----------------

All in all I figured this was worth posting here.
I was looking for red plastic to replace my cut and beatup black. Here was his response:

I heard back from Dion at Parker:

---------
Red is in fact available on the 2005 DS650, the part numbers are as
follows:

705001322 =$26.92 Front Fender RH- red
703500470 =$18.46 Front Fender LH - red
705000889 =$29.58 Front Fascia- Red
705001329 =$4.98 Headlamp Cover - Red
703500265 =$51.71 Tank Cover Kit -Red
705001332=$ 8.32 Front Protective Plate -Red(attaches to front grab Bar)
703500471 =$143.61 Rear Fend Kit - Red

After comparing the parts fiche for your 2001 to the 2005 it would appear that this swap might work. There may be some concern in the headlight area as the 2005 uses a headlamp cover which is not used on the 2001, but with the newer Front Fascia this might work out fine. However, after further research I have found that once you order/purchase these items they will belong to you with no possibility of return. Bombardier will not accept our returns on body plastics, which in turn makes it impossible for us to offer returns to our customers, In short, if you buy these and they do not fit, you will not be able to return them.

I hope this is helpful. Please call 928-669-2549 if you would like to place an order.

---------
I can understand why Bomb doesn't want plastic back, probably not the fastest seller in the world. The 05 bodywork is about double the yellow from earlier models, although red PAINTED bodywork is usually higher I am surprised that it is twice as high.

Looks like I would be good to go with red on my 01.
Anyway.. hope this helps.

I thought my dealer told me current model year plastic comes with decals the older stuff doesn't that might explain the price difference as the red rear fenders are new.

My 2005 nose piece had no decals, the 2005 rear fenders had the warning labels on the left side, the 2001 tank cover also had warning labels on it. I found that the 2005 and 2001 tank covers where the same size.

I am still hoping that one day FullBore will come out with something....The did it for the Dales, why not the DS?
I had emailed them a few times last year, I think after the 3rd or 4th they finally gave me a reply.
