Cam choice

If I spent that much time on custom cams I wouldnt tell anyone. Id let them keep running there one size fits all and keep smiling as I looked back at them but hey I probably wouldnt sell them either Id just keep them for myself.

I just wanted to know some specs, because its fun and this is my hobby and its all very interesting. Including that link to the cam grind education. But it kinda catches me off guard and makes me frown a little bit when my aptitude gets questioned by a salesman.

A custom one-off cam costs around $950 to produce
A builder with all his R/D and $ spent to make his cam do what he wants is not likely gonna publish any specs. on it for someone else to duplicate, and I don't blame them, now with that said one can always buy their cam and measure all the specs. after your $ is spent and you own it to see what you've got.
You can take all the shelf cams, mix up the grinds and centerlines to create a somewhat custom cam for about $300 if you know what you're shooting for, which is where alot of the builders start from, then customize from there, that way so many 1-offs don't have to be made in the R/D process.
They have plenty time and $ tied-up, and it's their way of making a living, so custom cam specs. are not to be spoken of much.

Sandbomber I know your smarter than you give your self credit for. You don't get where your at and race like you do with out some knowledge of what it takes to do it.

They pull strong from the bottom all the way up.

crazypainter just call one of them (builder) or all of them & tell them what your looking for out of the cams. Also tell them what your future plans are. See what they have to say & what question they have for you.
Then choose who you want to go with. Make sure that you stick with that builder with the rest of your mods.
It's easy for everyone that hasn't R&D cams to state whats the problem posting specs. It's easy for the Dealers of the other cam manufactures to post specs. No Blood Sweat & Tears when it to posting some elses hard work.
Craycraft Racing has their own custom grind cam for the raptor & those specs aren't posted. Matter of fact if you haven't purchased one of his engine kits in the past you can't even call up a order the cams.
Someone else protecting their Blood Sweat & Tears.
Sandbomber I'm with you, I just leave it to the experts to make me fast. I'm to busy being a expert @ what I do for a living.

I have swaped out alot of different cam combinations in my days of racing my stock bore, and a really good ALL-AROUND combo was the web 109 intake cam with the RWR A2 exhaust cam. This was my favorite cam combo to shred dunes, and climb steep dunes. right from Idle this combo would pull hard.
I ended up with the A1/A2 cams for drag racing. DSmike prefered the RWR 450 lift cams. Our bikes always ran close, but his did have more top-end, but we could never tell if it was the cams or the fact that I wieghed a 100lbs more than him. I never got to try out these new custom grinds that are being made for the dS, so maybe their are better ones out there, maybe not.

Crazypainter, Nick, and DS650viper are all asking "what will work best in my bike". Smart guys. For the rest of you that I talk to on a daily basis- isn't it great that you have unlimited choices now, instead of just 5 DS650 grinds that came from old air cooled 2 valve motors. There are only so many combinations you can mix and match those cams in. The rest of this post is only for a couple of people.
There are too many HPR recommended grinds to list and expect most people to know what they need. If someone is "on their game" enough to call out the numbers they want, very simple: call him and tell him what lift and duration you want- there are unlimited grinds available in ANY lift and duration. I am going to try to state that another way- if you are good enough to know what you want- tell him, he'll make it. If you want his knowledge and experience, tell him and he will determine the numbers for you. Now, that leaves only one reason to want his numbers: to steal from him.
OK, you guys want the HPR numbers? Here they are: Lift .300-.500, Duration 220-300 degrees, Lobe Centers 92-122 degrees. Now, take your pick, it is available.
There are many comments on this and some other threads that I am going to leave alone for now, but you need to remember, I know the truth about these snide comments, and the real truth has not yet been told.
