Cam choice

that leaves only one reason to want his numbers: to steal from him.
Sometimes people ask for numbers to see if they have been stolen, did your genius mind ever think of that?
Now before you fly off the handle and jump to more genius conclusions, read on...because I am not implying anything more than you just did.
You know, there's been several builders come and go on this forum, and some of them sucked.
Then along comes HPResearch. I don't know anything about how long HPResearch was in this 4-wheeler game prior to their arrival on the forum. So I don't know anything about their experience in the world of riding, and all the various places and conditions and terrains. I don't know if they have been all the way around the country and tried it all. You say you got 20 different grinds to choose from, based on riding needs? How in the hell am I supposed to know if this company has even experienced all of the vast mulitude of riding needs out there to be able to come up with so many combinations and know which one is right for me based on a phone conversation? Its kinda like dyno-tuning a carb for me, with my bike 2 states away, isn't it?
If you don't like being asked for information and feel the need to jump to wrongful conclusions about them, and if you can't take the burdens that come along with trying to use a public forum - yeah a public freakin forum - to pitch sales and bring in business, then take your commercials someplace else. You could have handled all this differently and won me over but instead you've pissed me off. All that needed said was that the grinds are a trade secret, say it with a smile, and then positively reinforce with conversations of experience in the field with all the trials and errors, and maybe mention some things about why this cam hits too hard for traction in muddy gncc, and why this other one is perfect for fast paced mountain trails and fire roads. You gotta say something that actually means something, not just keep repeating how you stuff is the best just because you say so. Now is that the truth you were looking for, presented snide enough?
Yeah I pissed some people off just now, no doubt. But you know what? I'm pissed off too so join the club.
I just logged on here tonight to check and see what new stuff was being said about the HPR cams, and still contemplating trying a set out, knowing I could e-bay them if I didn't like them after all. Now look where I am at. P!ss on it.

You know, some of you guys jumping in with comments, well some of you haven't really been around long enough to know what you're talking about. Two sides to every fence, not everything is as simple as it first appears.

Hightower you make some valid points, I KNOW you of ALL people wouldnt try and steel a measly grind!! I find that hilarious, I cant say much about HPR because I cant get ANY customer service from them they seem too busy and Im not afraid to admit it. I cant even get a price quote from them. OH well. Life goes on, I call it like I see it and I treat people as they treat me.lol No sweat off my back doing that... I NEVER caused a stink about spending $400 on DYTNO TIME getting the lectron dialed in after I bought it. OH yeah, Then again I never got any credit for that.LOL, OH yeah, Back to the subject... ID better stay out of this one!!!!
Yeah, That was out of left field, But since everyone was saying what was on their mind I thought I would too.......

Dang guys , we are all starting to sound like the Kenz/Craycraft guys, LMAO!!! okay were not that bad
I agree with Hightower, and THEBOM in this deal, HPR means Horse Power Research--- Mr. HP is a talented engine biulder who has an interest in the ROTAX 650, and over the last couple years has RESEARCHED other quality engine biulders and spun his own designs and ideas off of THEM to make his own product to sell. Nothing wrong with that, poeple have been copying and redesigning things since the internal combustion engine was invented. But PLEASE dont be so bold as to act like Sliced bread ONLY comes out of Kentucky. Alot of people have given props to HPR for many good reasons, but make no mistake about it, HPR is just another good engine biulder, there are many other biulds out thier. To get defensive about something like a cam shaft spec, just shows how limited your customer base really is. As said before the info can be had easily enough, thiers no need to accuse good people of conspiracy, LOL.
This always happens when money and egos get involved
This is one reason why I went with a conversion, LOL!!! its just to damn hard to get 3-4 precious HP out of a a single cylinder after a givin point . it will cost 3-4 grand in the end, and thier will STILL be someone that will beat you. and low and behold the same excuses/reasons will be given .....wieght....carburation.....rider.....set-up.....set-up....set-up..
Most of us just want to meet our friends out on the trails or Dunes, and have fun. And I found that after you spend WAY to much money in your Hobby, the FUN seems to go away.
Bigger.

Boy, have I waited on this topic for a while....... Looking at this thread and listening to what people have to say is very interesting sometimes. Not commenting on every little post has been a test of strenght to say the least.
Where do I begin.......
First: custom cam grinds DO work better per application. I've gained almost 30hp on our Blown Alky Hydro when we raced, almost 15hp on our roundy-round and about 8hp on my sand rail before I sold it. The custom cam grinds do work when you are willing to tune your fuel system to the grind. YES, there is a difference between dyno numbers and real world.
Second: race teams, builders, engineers etc. etc. do keep specs secret at the highest levels of all motor racing. But to think 4-wheelers cam numbers should be secret is.... well a little over the top. I'm not sure if anyone here makes money racing quads. If you do, then you are in the .000119 percentile.
Third: One of my biggest beefs about how Eric does business is the cloud of secrecy he works under. Needles on the HV's are ground, Lectron improvements are secret, cams grinds are secret etc. etc. Now I have made that very clear, and many have disagreed with my view - cool. Eric and I don't agree on how he does everything, but at least we can talk/write in a civil manner. That said, this is getting pretty deep in these here parts.
I've heard some God-Awful stories about some less than up-front business dealings in the last couple of weeks. I hope that they are not true. I pray that they are not true, but all reports seem to be pointing in a certain direction. I've tried to stay out of it, and it seems that I'm continually asked about this stuff. Listen, I'm not sure what is going on and I can neither confirm or denie anything.
Offered simply as a suggestion:
HPresearch...... something has to change in the world of DS research, motor building and or business practices. If it doesn't, you'll find that business starts to NOT GROW, Drop, and then fail. We all think that you've got some wonderful ideas and you are certainly talented. But you might want to look at how business is being done. 222/Randal said it best.... he has NEVER heard about a negative post on RWR, or of someone being negative about or to them. They're not secretive, they are not suspicious nor have they EVER been in any kind of bad light.
You can take this in any way you want, but it seems to me a smart group of guys might want to look at the image they're projecting. Just my 2cents.
I sincerely hope that we see a day in which HPresearch isn't getting questioned or doing damage control. Seems to me that you folks have more control over that then the masses do. Remember, for ever action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
Good luck

Here is my 2 cents. If even.
I say ERIC, stick to your guns, you dont need to hand out any of your info on the cams. I dont know what seems to be the problem with everyone in here, maybe you guys need to ride more. Eric has proven his ability to build these motors. Prove me wrong!!!! I know this isnt my place to say, but here goes anyway. I know of 2 seperate company's that have SCREWED Eric on his own parts in the last 6 months. Everyone in here knows one of them. Dont give me that crap about its a free market. Yes its a free market, but in a free market, you need to protect your own R&D from the shi$heads out there that want to copy, discount and market your ideas. It goes both ways.
ERIC,
I know this stuff probably doesnt bother you as much as it would bother a high strung individual such as myself. But try to look at it this way, these guys wouldnt have anything to say if your product didnt work. The only reason their panties are in a bunch is they know what you have works great. I say keep up the good work and stick to your guns.
Oh, and my money is on you kicking *** in Luisiana.
