DS Sparkplug

How often do you guys recommend changing the plugs? I had 60 hrs on these and they ran fine, but I decided to change the plugs in all of our bikes. Thats 10 in all. I tell you just keeping up with the maintanance on 7 bikes is hell. Plus I'm one of them guys who has to change everything every single time the bikes roll out of the garage. I went ahead and just bought the stock R's.

That depends on how you ride and how she runs!
I have changed mine three times in one day because of carb trouble. If you run at idle speed a lot, (which is easy to do when trail riding with friends in the mud or water) you may need to change it more often than normal.
Now that I think about it, I need to get another case.

This is a subject that I have given some thaught to.
I replaced my plugs for the first time in my 00 DS this last November. They had no less then 300 hours on them and they still looked and worked good. I know this because both plugs went into other engines and are still there and running.
The thing that scares me about the dual plug set-up is that each plug has its own coil. When a plug is good, the coil fires the plug at ~30K volts. However, when a plug fails, the respective coil will increase the voltage well up to 80k volts or untill it finds a ground source for its charge. A coil working that hard will eventually burn itself out but not before it damages the plug wire and/or plug cap.
Now, one could assume that a failed plug would be noticeable and would be addressed right away...Right? well, maybe.....maybe not, problem is, when a plug goes bad you probably won't notice it because the other coil and plug is there and doing the job. It could be hours of engine run time before you realize there is a problem, maybe until the other plug fails. Again, I have never had a plug go bad in my DS so I don't know how noticable it is. This theory is the only motivating factor that drove me to replace the plugs in the first place. I my opinion, NGK is one of the best plugs on the market especially in motorcycle engines where they see ahellofalot more abuse then in a car engine. I found this out through trial and error over the years.
