This is one of those parts that I scratch my head on. I guess the big purpose behind this is to keep sand out of an open airbox. Personally, I dont really care about sand in the airbox, cuz I run outerwears on my filters. I'm still scratching my head [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif[/img]

 

to get more airflow without running an open lid. I also run an outerwear on my KN, but would still prefer the airbox to be covered.
