Water pump leak 2nd time in 150 hrs what's the problem
I replaced my water pump shaft and seals 2/04 because they were leaking. I tore it down yesterday because it was loosing coolant and the oil looked milky, and the water pump shaft has grooves worn in it again and there was coolant between the 2 seals. Is this common for the shaft to only last 150hrs? or am I doing something wrong? I used the grease the manual called for between the two seals.
Thanks

I replaced my seals and shaft after only about 50 hours of riding the first year I had the bike. 500 hours since and still no leak.
while you have it apart this time, install a tiny hose barb on the wheephole with some clear vinyl tubing in a loop. this will keep debris and grit out of the space between the two seals, which you must also have packed with the grease. replace both seals and the shaft all together, with plenty of grease, and the barb and hose on the wheephole, and you will be good to go.

Hightower is 100 % correct !!! its the trail junk going up the weep hole and munching the seals . I had the same problem in 01 and got a small aluminum tube from menards that fit in the weephole (with slight hammer assistance) and put a 1 ft long plastic fuel line on the end of the hose . not a problem since .
