Default Lightening up my DS

I did just the basics. I removed the headlight and tail light, with their mounting brackets and wiring harnesses. I removed the airbox with its air ducts and went to an on-carb filter. Also removed the front fenders and their mounting brackets. Changing from the stock exhaust with end cap mod to a light weight exhaust saves you six pounds right there, especially if you ditch the stock heat shield and switch to a carbon fiber heat shield. I went with an HMF slip on, but you will save even more weight and have higher power gains with a full exhaust like Big Gun. Aluminum foot pegs, such as AC Pro Pegs will save another five pounds or so. I bought mine with the AC Pro Peg nerfs, and then later decided I didn't want the nerfs, so cut the nerf part off, leaving just the light weight aluminum foot pegs.

After the basics it starts to get expensive, because machine work is needed, or exotic metals (titanium). Fox float shocks are the lightest on the market because there are no springs, and save 7 to 8 pounds with a full set. Alternatively, if you know the length, diameter, and spring rate of your stock shock springs, you can replace them with titanium springs, ... at about $400 a pop Might be cheaper to buy a lighter quad . I bought a lighter quad, ... when I switched from a V-Force to a DS650 Viper, LOL. Good luck.

if u are not running with the stock air box, and have no plans of changing back, u can remount the battery under the seat and cut the battery holding part off the sub frame. thats probally like 3-4 lbs there. for rotating mass, anybody think its worth buying titanium nuts for the wheel bolts??, how about titanium bolts/nuts for the bolts holding the sprocket to the sprocket hub??

LOL, Yea you did go to a lighter quad welcome to the team.Sounds like my ideas are inline. I would like to move the battery box but there not enough room for the battery and Nos under the seat. The front fenders and airbox are already gone. Im looking into the Big gun but holding off to see when HPR's exhaust it coming out. I like the peg idea but man I really like the roll design pegs that Donal has but there stainless not much loss there.

Carbon Fiber........Very expensive. My best friend manages Grafil, they mix the raw material for carbon fiber, put it on huge rolls and sell it to different companies. The price has dropped considerably the past five years and is now showing up in high performance cars and I see a few m/c and atv parts offered as well.
