Well I ended up w/ the KQ, but in all of my research on the Outty I too was told by everyone who owned one to get a skid plate. ASAP. With the KQ I am told to get a new filter ASAP.

thats a stretch saying its the same engine just 2x, the V-twin is not just the 400 x2, Totally different motor. You can't compare the two like that. Two single cyl 400 slapped together doesn't make a V-twin 800.
I'll agree the motor is proven, through their sled technology however, not quads.

My point was that both quads come off the same platform and both engine designs as well. Side by side they are identical, the 800 is only about 35 lbs heavier. They made much more powerful quad without making a much larger machine if that makes any sense. They did the same thing with the 650 which is identical to the 800 except for engine bore.

 

yes those are the rumors, supposedly you can slap the 1000 heads on the 800, or swap the 800 with the 650. All rumors at this point, I haven't seen it done yet. But I haven't looked hard either.
In my mind no way a crank designed for a 650 can handle 1000 heads. I can believe the 800 swap to 650 though.

 

I think she did the right thing, she wanted a new quad right now didn't want to wait, and she got it a lot cheaper than the 650 will be....and most of the KQ's bugs are worked out now that it's a second year machine.
