DS Day's 2007 - Location

Mark me and Cathy have been hitting the dunes every weekend this summer to try and beat the heat here in the valley. It has been over 90 degrees many days this summer and as you know that means the dunes will be about 65 or 70 and that makes for some great duning as well as being a great temperature for producing power.Maybe i should keep quiet about just how good the duning can be here or soon the word will get out and everyone will be here.LOL.

This could be a good time to talk about some of the areas, and how they ride.
Oregon Dunes:
Great Sand, Awesome cross country and sand trails and nice in the summer.
Saint Anthony's Dunes:
Sand nearly as good as Oregon. HUGE Bowls. Large areas and multiple places to dune drag including Choke Cherry.
Sand Mountain Nevada:
A really nice drag hill, some cross country and probably one of the most social places to meet others. It also has an awesome Vendor row during the holiday weekends.
Dumont:
I've never been there and would very much like to someday. I've seen pictures and will definately make it there someday.
Glamis:
One of the largest and famous dune areas in the country. Everyone has to go at least once. Bring a GPS or a friend that knows all the great spots which include Olds Hill and China Wall.
Pismo Beach:
Ive never been there but I know it has a rich history for motorheads. I'd mark that one down for one of the places I wish to go to at least once.
Winnemucca Nevada:
Tracy mentioned this place to me and I've never been there or heard about it. I saw dune area from jet airplane while flying over Nevada and never did figure out where it was. Its possibly this one. Its always nice to discover an area thats new and unknown to many people.

Winnemucca is featured in a magazine and I believe it was in the top 15 in great places to dune. They also feature it on duneguide. So anyone can go check it out. It is not a bad place it is definately not the best place but it has it's pro's and con's. We like it because it is only 2 hrs. from our home which makes it pretty close for us. It is never to busy and there is hardly anyone making sure we are being good. As many times as I have been there, there has been a Ranger there maybe twice. check it out on duneguide you will get the idea.
Like I said though they have no facilities at this time but there is a RV park type area going in as we speak.
If anyone wants to check it out. Let us know and we can meet ya and show you around.
Just a little more info.
http://www.duneguide.com/ I don't know how to make a link so I hope this helps. I shows most if not all of the spots on the list.

I'm really not trying to stir the pot. . .
IMO - DS Days is Labor Day Weekend so, if Dumont wins are we saying we are going to show up there Labor Day Weekend?
One thing to change the location and mix that up a bit. . . In my mind changing the location and date are just too much.
I know that I can express that the way I vote but. . . if Dumont wins, when are people expecting to go?
IMO, we need to keep this a Labor Day Weekend tradition or I can see it dying out. I think the way 4SW's has maintained the same location does isolate it from many people that would like to come (east coast / texas) but, everyone knows when it will be held so, they have the opportunity to plan a trip around it.
Ok, I'm done.
. . . what's with annihilater lately. . . he's black, he's white???

For me, I see my kids every Christmas - They live in another state which requires that I fly there. Its gonna be tough for me to hurry up and fly back, then take a 10+ hour drive. The thing that also makes it nearly impossible is the fact that I cant get that much time off in a row.
In my opinion, if an organizer chooses any other date other than Labor Day, I think it will be very quiet. I would strongly urge the other organizer potentials to have it on Labor Day.
Jed's still acting organizer until someone else is chosen. In my opinion, if he puts his foot down and says the event will only be held on Labor Day, then thats the day it will be held on ... period. This is just another good reason why an organizer is elected. If it werent so, it can become chaos.
