I know the early models ds's had problem with the fans and people solved that by tying them in directly to a switch and the 00 models you have to bleed the oil after an oil change...The ds is a great machine though as long as you take care of it and keep up with maintanance.

Im pretty new to the DS community however I have read a ton of these post and seems to be minimal problems as with any other quad, however problems that do arise have been put under a microscope and with good solutions. there is alot of smart guys in here with lots of expieriance.
Im currently facing a possible crank seizure (thought it was a carb problem) see my post on "crank trying to seize"
so I hope you guys can help me pull this one out. otherwise I am rally happy with the DS its comfort and ride is fenomanal.

Default Problems with all the ds650's

I had electrical problems for over a year on my 04 DS 650 Baja. After replacing two batteries and the CDI unit I gave up. The dealer ended up finding out the problem. It was a defective starter. They fixed it at my cost. I did the ground wire add on and have not had a problem since. $400.00 for Dealer to replace the starter.

I had to put a riser on the handle bars as they hit the gas tank on both sides and left marks in it. $75.00

Also for no reason had to replace the shaft the engauges the clutch assembly. $150.00

Bearings in rear had to be replaced due to recall. $ No charge.

Thats about it.

This is a bigger one that has been missed over all by the community as a whole. Make sure you grease them rear bearings, as a seizing will cost big bucks......

Default Problems with all the ds650's

Remember when i had the post on here about my engine siezing, then bashing the head up, taking out the piston, and screwing the jug? well it was a slightly common thing around here for awhile the ones with that certain model number they were an early 04 if i remember right. One ring gave out and then took out everything else and it was the same on the others aswell. Only late late LATE 03s and early 04s. Stock muffler is a POS packing goes out in 3 hours.....stock tailight is useless and thats about all the probs ive had.

The biggest problem I've had with my ds is taking the weight off this beast.
