Maybe we should make sure there is an equal number of trophies so that everyone can go home a winner.
To put a mechanism in place to even out the odds of the poor guys and the rich guys would be no different than putting up a mechanism for dumbing down the smart guys so the dumb ones could compete...........or better yet, how about we make the fast guys go slower so the slow guys in the same class could win a few to.
If you are poor, dumb or slow........or all three, possibly a different sport/hobby would be in order.

I am in the poor and slow catagory, and some would even argue to add the third [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img] However, you are correct. Life just ain't fair that way, but in reality would you want it to be that way....Where would the incentive be to get better at anything. You need more money for racing a quad, hit the pavement for a better job, take night classes so you can get that degree to make a pay difference.....Yes, races with set standards, rules and regs that are unbinding and unchanging would be a great start. Well defined classes and all will help.
Hey BTW, I think I am the first keyboard racer that made a call out and showed up to race!!! Got my **** kicked, but I was there. I may just have to stick with showing up, loaning out my tool box, holding a radar gun, and cutting a few zip ties, and call my self part of the winning team. I am still slow and poor, but at least I can argue smart haha [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif[/img]

Assembling an organization that will garner the attention of the manufacturers has nothing to do with being dumb, slow or choosing a different hobby.
Jed and Mario makes some very valid points in this thread about moving drag racing into the direction in which it can gain the recognition like Motocross/XC, etc, etc.

I was referring specifically to Headsupracing's comment that I quoted. Any attempt to regulate the use of money in the sport will defeat the purpose and create a disincentive to achieve.
If you get the guys with the most money paired up with the smartest guys in the field........you are going to win a lot of races and set a new bar.

The handouts and bennies will rain down like a late August afternoon Arizona monsoon. And it will all be on OUR tax dollar. Just like the previous Clinton administration...

Ace, dang brotha you got it nailed!!! I think I am going to take that paragraph and use it as an email! Spread the word to try and get people out to vote.
Well, it does take money to play this game. But if I was only racing other bikes that were of the same size, then I wouldnt be racing against someone who chose to spend alot more to make a big bore. Once the money is spent on the chosen size, it starts getting down to setup, driver, reaction, tire, the REAL fun part of racing. Once things start to get that close, it gets real interesting.
The best class I can explain that this happens in is the stock bore 450 class. Lots of racers, some guys with lots of money in chrome, but its close, the competition is close, and if someone sneezes, they loose. Thats what I am talking about. Right now it is not happening in the big bore classes the way its setup.
I also like the idea of going up in size, as long as the chassis meets certain weight requirements. In sleds, we have a CC limit, and also weight limits, to go with each classification. Of course there is less people in each class, but it brings more people in general as there is a better chance for them to win.

This I can agree with. It is called being a "Spectator" [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif[/img]
We already have stockbore classes. Once sponsors are involved and this sport is televised, even the mighty 855 won't keep up. The singles will be 98% NM, making over 300 hp and running 300' in under 3 seconds. That is who will draw the crowds and get any notoriety.
If you don't want this, (Scott) hope the sport doesn't go big time. If you want it so we can all afford to compete..........just keep it a hobby [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif[/img]
