Default Problems with my ds650

I just traded my banshee for a ds650. I noticed once I started riding it that it would backfire alot while engine breaking. Normally one very loud shot and at night you can see flames shoot out of the pipe. It would die once I go from engnie breaking then pull in the clutch. Any ideas on what is going on here? Bike is all stock except for the big gun exhaust, and K&N air filter. It seemed to do alittle better with the airbox lid off. Also I think the clutch is starting to slip, is there any adjustment for the clutch or just buy a new one. I was told it was a new clutch.

If taking your airbox lid off makes things better, your jetting is probably too rich. Do a search on "jetting", and there should be several hours of reading for you on this subject.

Yep, rejet, that will help with the backfire. As far as the clutch, it adjusts like your shee used to. If it is new it should not be slipping, what kind is it? I had a Barnett on my old single cyl, and it was a little stiff at first, but once it was broke in it was a beautiful thing.

It is the stock clutch, so there is no way to make the friction plates engage any harder?

Not unless the previous owner installed different springs. Did the guy by chance show you the old one? Or did he just tell you it has a new one?

Did you adjust the bottom adjustment so it engages the clutch all the way. I know that is one way you can make sure it's grabbing as hard as possible. Then you have to adjust the clutch lever accordingly. Good luck.

No, he didn't show me the stock clutch he just told me that it was a new one. I will check clutch arm and make sure it is adjusted correctly also. I heard that you could change the order of the plates and that makes a difference is that true? Also for a temp fix can I change to stiffer springs

Order some Ron Woods 60% springs and that will help it hook up a lot better.
