06 Outlander 400 (MAX XT) help with shifter
I purchased a used 06 Max 400 for my wife (1100 miles). It runs excellent, but occasionally it grinds when going into gear, then won't go back into park. The linkage is tight and doesn't appear to be shifted. Idle is okay as well. Any ideas as to what else to look for? I want to rule out the self-fixes before I take it into the local stealership.
Also, I'm putting on an HMF muffler, but was wondering if jets are worth the investment? It seems to be a little sluggish on the start, (or maybe I'm just too used to my 800). i just want o give it a little more kick.
Thanks

My wifes is difficult to shift also. Others havd had this problem too and has been dubbed "DA BOMB ROCK" as you sometimes have to rock it back & forth to go into gears. Maybe one of the bomb gurus has found a fix & will chime in. They are also prone to exhaust heat shield rattle or viberation, wrapped a couple pieces of wire around hers.

Just got my wife an almost new 2006 Outlander 400 Max XT and it also has the shift problem, apparently it is common from what I've read. She will just have to get used to it. I saw it refered to as the "outlander bump" but I like "da bomb rock" better I think. We are going to talk to the dealer about it but I dont think there is anything that can be done about it. I have riding other automatic quads where the shifter had similar problems.

Just posted a similar thread a bit down the line. My 05 400 has recently just started having shifting issue. I woudn't decribe the shifting prior to this smooth but it was easier. Now it feels like I'm going to break the lever. If I shut it off then it shifts very easy. I think I got some water in the CVT last weekend and I'm guessing that is the root of my problem. Anyone have any ideas? Is it save to take the cvt cover off and take a look? It's so difficult to get it out of some gears now that the engine stalls.
