What paddles for built DS650?

Skat Trak = GREAT
Sand Tires Unlimited (sandblasters, paddle brats) = Good
Everything else = JUNK/CRAP
The first thing you need to invest in is a swingarm. Thats a fact!!! Why spend the money on your motor and then have paddles that spin so much to keep the front end down? Your just flushing your horsepower out the back with the roost. You need to put that power to the ground.

Seriously though, this is a bit overboard. I certainly won't be flushing my horsepower out the back. Most of it will get to the ground. I'll report back after my trip next weekend and let you all know if I wasted my money. Ron Wood seems to think this will run pretty good. You don't mind if I respect his opinion just a tad over yours I hope?

I dont mind or care what you do. Its your decision and it doesnt effect me one way or another. I was just under the impression that you were asking for "opinions", and thats what I gave based on my experience. It wasnt meant to be offensive, although it seems thats how you took it. Im a little confused now as to why you started this thread if you and Ron Wood already have it figured out. But ultimately, it has to be your decision and you have to be comfortable with it. Ive been in your position with a very similar build and I once thought the same things. But Im not mad or offended by any means, and I would do my best to try and help you or anyone else if you have questions in the future. I wish you the best of luck next weekend and i hope everything goes to plan for you.

I was asking for opinions in this thread long before I ever got one from Wood.
Anyways, you seem to have missed my point. My quad had 20" Maxxis Roosters. I got stuck with those if I came to a standstill headed uphill. Someone else actually predicted that before I ever mentioned it. Every other comment in this thread says nothing about needing to increase my swingarm so either you're way smarter than all of the rest or maybe you're just missing the point.
At any rate thanks for the opinion. I'm quite comfortable with my decision.

Like I said earlier when I recomended 8 paddle Extremes.. my build is very much like yours.
With a stock steel arm I can not launch at max power in 2nd. Even if I get as far forward as possible the front will come over, and that is with 8 paddle.
With a +4 like Goodsound recommended I can launch in 2nd at full throttle just leaning over the bars. I weight 220 ready to ride.
All he is saying is you will not be able to put all your power to the sand at launch with a stock length swing arm.
Like all things in life there are trade offs with both. With a stock arm there are places you will have to back off the throttle as the front gets light. With the +4 you can keep the power on in more places. With a stock arm its easier to loft the font end over trail obstacles or pull wheelies. I like side hilling better with a stock arm. In the dirt a +4 made mine too hard to hook up and the front to heavy.
I have run both and since my DS is 75% trail, 25% sand and of the 25% sand maybe 2% is hill shooting I prefer a stock length for my riding, so that is what I run.

I'm having my 2001 DS650 built by Jim Woods of Simi Valley Honda and current CORVA President. He is doing valves/springs and porting the head. He is also putting a higher compression piston in and a new cam. All the parts are from Ron Wood Racing but I don't have the part numbers or actual values yet. Also putting on a Woods Racing Exaust system.
With that I think I will need some new paddles. I am currently running a set of Maxxis Rooster which I think won't handle the new power.
What are the hot paddle tires these days? I was told about one called Razr and a few others. Any suggestions?
I am also curious what people think about how much more power I'll have. I mainly want to beat Raptors and I'm pretty sure this will allow me to do that and beat most other stock quads too.

So let me try this again, and this time Ill even try to sugar coat it for you. IMO (which stands for In My Opinion) you should go with skat trak and stay away from pretty much everthing else. But, before you do, ITS ALSO MY OPINION that you need to address the swing arm issue. The fact that you weigh 270lbs, wont help you keep the front end down with proper hooking paddles. And I say that because I weigh 300+ pounds and when I first got started in this whole motor build/racing/go fast stuff/ what have ya, I thought the same thing. I too argued with people that told me otherwise. I was sadly mistaken!
So again, I am sorry I missed your point and am still missing your point. Ive been envolved in sand drags for about 8 years which the last 6 of those have been with DSs and Outlanders. I own 2 DS's, one is a 770 and the other is bigger (lol) and one 840 Outlander. Needless to say, Ive racked up a little bit of experience (not near as much as some) and I was hoping my experience could be of service to you. Again, best of luck to ya!!!

No FFB, I havnt. It seems we have to pay in to Uncle Sam alot more than we expected and that kind of wiped out my tire fund LOL. Im going to have to make due with what I got for now. But I still plan on buying either a set of #2 blasters or some more rippers. Wish I could do both.

Yes, once again you are missing my point. IMO you are trying to help but IMO you are not hearing what I want to do. IMO I said I haven't been able to get the front end up with a stock motor and 20" Maxxis Roosters. I will now drop the sarcasm.
I am not a racer. I am a 55 year old guy who cut his teeth on Corvair dune buggies back in the early 70s. I've ridden motorcycles since the late 60s, both on and off the dirt. I have a pretty good idea what I want in my ATV.
If my "point" had been I want a drag bike then your suggestions would have been perfect. I want a bike that will beat Raptors and most other stock bikes. I think what I'll end up with will be just about perfect.
Are you understanding me better now?
Edit: BTW (which stands for By The Way) I would like to see my front end come up. My point was that it never did with the stock motor and 20" tires. If in the future I decide to put a longer swingarm on it then I will, but at this point I'm going to take it out and see how it goes. A longer swingarm would also make it so my tailgate wouldn't close. Not a biggie but until I run it with the built motor and stock swingarm I'm not going to do anything like that, for now.

Yeah, I would really like to own a set of blasters. But actually, Im always trying to learn something new, and thats exactly what Im going to do with this thread. Im thinking about going back to a +4 swingarm and 8 paddle extremes on my drag bike. Beings thats a drag set up and all.
BTW (which stands for ***** That Wiggle), how do you add faces to your post? I tryed the Post Icons that are right below the Message box and it puts the face up in the top left hand corner. Im looking for a rolling eyes smiley.
