There's some sarcasm in there. All I ever hear is "locker locker locker". Well?? What good did his locker do this time??

He has a great - big bore locker equipped ATV and new wonderfull Big Horn tires.

His son with his Polaris, new Big Horn 2.0s and "true 4-wd" had a hard time too even with the log moved out of the way.

So with all the advantages a locker has why couldn't he make it up the hill??

Maybe a locker isn't the most important thing on an ATV like everyone claims it is.

No doubt better locked than unlocked but still for me it's not the #1 priority.

I would consider an Outlander 800 if they have fixed all the heat that comes off the clutch. I rode the '09 800 Max in Nov and the heat was nice but I don't think I could take it on a nice July afternoon.

I get to ride a lot of ATVs and I still don't mind climbing back on the one I have.

The Renegade was a blast but not well suited for me.
You're correct- the clutch heat is unreal on these can-am's! I've had to ride with my foot on the edge of the peg when in shorts cause it feels like it's cooking my leg.

You're also right about beating a dead horse- I've owned a half dozen big-bore can-am's... I've been through some real knarly mud pits, steep sandy / rocky and snowy hills- the visco never let me down- and I've pulled my fair share of sportsmans and brute force's out of some holes that I burped through on my can-am. (I've also been pulled out by just about every model out there too... ) I love the can-am spar & tti- I used to tear cv boots all the time on my brute, popo & KQ- I've never torn a boot on any of my can-am's and I love not having a-arms in the rear that hang down. GC is amazing on a can-am.

I've also owned a couple of honda rincons- and other then one time getting stuck in some nasty mud (front locker wouldn't have made any diff) I always pushed that rincon and it always did well for the most part.

I love HP and features- can-am has always been on the leading edge of innovation- though I have been very interested in owning a new polaris 850xp- they gave that atv some nice upgrades. I'm not brand loyal- I pretty much follow the leader in features

oh- and, hehehe- we need to ban tlc from you-tube

A big part of the equation was tires there. What were you running, Specta? I gots to know. (Paraphrase of bank robber shot by Dirty Harry) Momentum is also a huge factor in mud, snow, and sand. If you let off you might not make it up or through. BIGGEST factor is the rider that knows how to deal with each type of terrain. A seasoned rider is the #1 factor in my mind. The only reason I talk at length about full locker versus limited is I've been through mudholes where I've barely made it where a guy with a limited slip doesn't quite get out. Also, on steep rock climbs it's good to have all wheels clawing for traction because, more often than not, a tire will come off the ground. Too much momentum going into rocks can really damage a quad. Another huge factor in rocks is the amount of wheel travel you have to keep all the wheels on the ground getting traction as much as possible. Just some random thoughts.

The person I ride with the most has a 500 Foreman, and we see where not having AWD screws him up more than a few times.

YouTube - ATV On Demand Test, Carlisle ACT Radial Tire Test

I just put on my second set of ACTs and these are my 6th set of tires.

Hands down these are the best tires I've had and ATV On Demand desribe them to a T.

I did have a set of Big Horns and other than getting some great mileage out of them I don't have anything good to say about them.

I'm sure where I ride here in the Rocky Mountains is not the most difficult terrain on earth but we do have an occasional challenge.

I ride with a very seasoned ATVer and he rides a lot of different ATVs from a 750 KQ, 750 Brute Force and a new Polaris 850 Touring.

All being a "more aggressive" ATVs than mine he has yet to leave me behind.
