06 outlander stranded
#1
Was riding tonight, about 15 miles down the trail when I lost all power. Gauge cluster was dead, no lights, no winch power. Then it seemed to go into limp mode. I could go roughly a quarter throttle b4 it started spitting and popping out the exhaust. Once I stopped and shut the key off, it won't restart. I can hear the fuel pump kick on but that is it. Starter won't engage and nothing else gets power. When I hit the start button, all it does is cycle the fuel pump back on. Any ideas?

Check your battery connections and make sure they are clean and tight. Check the voltage on your battery and make sure it is good. Then check the 7.5 amp fuse in the front fuse box. You can also swap the black relays in the front fuse box to see if one of those is bad. If none of that works then check the 30 amp fuses on the back fuse box to the right of your battery.

I would start with your battery connections. Make sure you take the battery out of the bike and clean both terminals and then where it grounds to the frame. Make sure you get your connections tight. Your main accessories relay may be going out or not making good contact. This happened to me when I over applied dielectic grease to my fuses and relays. Mine also kept blowing the fan relay. Relays are cheap at the auto parts store but OEM are the best to go with.. trust me, I know from experience.. also check the bottom of the fuse box where all your wires go into the box, those wires have been known to corrode.

I agree 100% with everything txmudgurl has said... some good advice there.
a lose battery connection or bad / lose ground will pop fuses and cause the issues you're reporting.
I've also had an isolated incident with the red "run / stop" slide switch on the left handle- if that's grounded out, it'll do what you're saying.

PROBLEM SOLVED! So, after giving up on it for a while,(I was moving into my new house). I tore into it again tonight. It turned out to be the speed sensor. It popped the f4 fuse(7.5amp) everytime I turned on the ignition, and if I hit the start button, it would only cycle the fuel pump. I had no winch, headlights, tailights, gauge cluster power, or taillight. It was totally dead. Luckily, i had a spare transmission with a speed sensor on it from when I totaled my machine back in 07. I swapped in the sensor and it fired up. Then I spent the next 1.5 hours putting it back together b4 I could ride it. I HATE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. I never thought that it could have been transmission related, but that is why i am not a mechanic!
