Mikuni TM42 Problems

Have done exactly what you suggested, ie 30 Pilot, 160 Main, Accelerator pump off. clip in bottom position of 97 needle, Pilot air screw out 1 3/4 turns.
Still seems to be running pretty rich (sooty black exhaust pipe), but it is definately sort of OK. Scooby did you end up giving up in disgust with this carb, prior to you getting you turbo monster?
Could not compare it to my mate Peter's DS as he is away at the moment, so will have a few drags next weekend to se if it is any quicker.
