Bearman, sounds like you ride most of the same places I do. How often do you go to Hungry Valley? From where I live now it's about 30 minute trip and is very worth that drive. Another great spot is Jawbone Canyon aka Dove Springs. (out the 14 near Mojave.) We seem to do Ocotillo Trips a couple of times a year as well. We're taking off for Pismo Beach Over Thanksgiving if you or anyone else thinks that might be a fun spot. There is a website that you can pre-register for a nearby campsite on, I hear it fills up quick though. We registered a while ago. Next time you take off to go riding drop me a line. blackhawk@home.com.

Sounds like Jawbone canyon is a great place to ride,We are going to Ocotillo Wells for Thanksgiving but maybe we can hook up in October for the Slash-x poker run.I dont have the exact dates but will post it as soon as I get it.If you go riding another time let me know and we will try to make it.

Bearman that sounds like a plan, I think we may do a day-trip within the next two weeks or so. The Slash-X poker run is the one out in Barstow right? We've pretty much sworn that one off, every time we go, it's rocky as heck, someone breaks something and it just takes a lot of the fun out of it getting equipment beat up that bad.

There's another place somewhat close to SoCal called Kennedy Meadows in the Sequoia Nat Forest. I havn't been there myself yet, but I have ridden in other Nat Forests in Ca and find then to be great places to ride. Anyway, I've heard good things about Kennedy and at 5000-7000 ft. it should stay pretty cool in the summer there.
For those who havn't been to Pismo yet, I've got a couple of tips for you:
As soon as you pull past the gate, get out and let the air out of your tires until you have about 15lbs. This will let you float over the sand and will help to keep you from getting stuck. Even if you have a 4X4, if you have a heavy load (bikes, trailer, etc)this is a good idea. I have a 4X4 dualie and still need to let air out when I'm pulling my toy hauler.
If you have a 2X4 don't don't go any farther down the beach than you have to. At mile marker two the sand is still pretty firm and you can easily reach the open riding area on your quad.
Bring some caution ribbon and 5' steaks to "steak out" your site. This will keep drunken maniacs from roosting your wife and kids as they sit around the campfire.
Be sure to park high enough on the beach so that you don't get washed out by high tide. This can be a real bummer.

1Bearman, actually I'm up in NorCa. I think the Brentwood by you guys is Brentwood Heights (OJ's Brentwood)?
We are thinking of going down to Ocotillo Wells sometime in January. We've got friends who live in Escondito who are new to off-roading and will probably go with us also. Maybe we can hook up then? Also, we are trying to find time (and money) to get down to Kennedy Meadows either this year or next.
