<< I am a little confused about a few things because it is new to me. I have never been involved with an event that required any kind of permit. Could someone please explain to me what the purpose of the permit is. I know we need it for anyone commercial to be there but why? just lookin for some Clarification is all >>

Mostly to cover BLM's butt. They will most likely require insurance (I may know where you can get this Don). They want to understand any environmental impacts too.

Also, if you are hosting an event that is raising money for something other than a non-profit, I think a portion of the proceeds go to BLM.

Just more government red tape.....

I'm with Knutz, this event is not going away. We're going to be out that weekend one way, or another.

Well after doing alot of thinking about this and just not getting the whole permit deal, I have a few questions for all and maybe a few suggestions.

If the permit doesn't go thru, would anyone here not still come? I dont think so, but maybe I am wrong. I see nothing wrong with a hell of alot of DS owners coming out and celebrating their DS'S. The clean up needs help and all who can help I am sure would be glad to go out and help keep the area they are enjoying that much better because it is clean.

The way I see this event happening(no permit provided)is we all just get together and have a basic schedule(knutz) and just wing it from there. I have yet to go to the dunes when some good, freindly, side by side competition doesnt take place(if ya know what I mean). Then some good hearted people threw up some prizes for those who showed and then others offered some for the baddest of the bad and so forth. Everyone who is going has been around this kind of stuff so it wouldnt be confusing to anyone I dont think.

We have some great offers from some people to provide things for those to gather. We have a company who is willing to provide a good gathering point for a big BBQ. How much better can you get than that?

The reason I put this on here is to not step on anybodys toes in any way. It is to show everyone that it can be advertised and be as big as ever and as fun as ever. Even without the permit. Of course if we get the permit then, hell yah! So get out those polishes, new plugs, ice the coolers, fill up the vehicles, and get your butts to Sand MTN. Labor Day weekend!!!

Sounds good to me demon, but dont give up hope yet. Don(knutz) is working hard on trying to get the permit and then we wont have any problems. Thats why we started planning this event so far in advance. Sean

racrdude,

I'm so hungry already I think I'll eat a few hundred times between now and then to keep myself from starving... heh heh heh.

As far as the .web site goes, it's mostly done. We just posted the current schedule of events and moved it to it's own page, so it looks a little nicer now. I would like to add some more information if possible though so if anyone can help with these topics that would be great.

1. Lodging information: Where can people stay, aside from camping? I assume most/all lodging that is not camping will be in Fallon, correct?

2. Other attractions: There was interest in this, and I know Reno was listed but if we could get more information that would be great. In fact, if NeoSirfir has time/generosity to make a map from Sand Mountain to Reno, that might help any of the people that want to go there for a little side entertainment. It seems to me, that way if someone is trying to get his wife to go and can print her a map to Reno or whatever 'interesting' things are in the area that might help his chances of joining our get-together. Also NeoSirfir said that people might want a map to Sand Mountain from Las Vegas, it seems to me that -might- confuse people but I think if we present it correctly it shouldn't, does anyone figure a Vegas to Sand Mountain map is a must have?

3. We ought to round out details for the event. IE: Is there going to be any cost, etc, etc, etc? Should we 'elect' people to start taking charge of certain aspects of our event?

4. PDF flyer creations! I know several of you have already mentioned that you have the ability to make a PDF, so lets get some rough drafts posted, and that way when we find out the answer to the permit question we can have our flyers ready if we decide to mass market the event.

5. Sand mountain pictures and links or other information: If there is anything in this category that you think the web site needs let me know so we can add it.

BlackHawk:
I have a link to a map on the "Info" page for Friends of Sand Mountain. Feel free to point people there or just grab the mapquest link from that page. I also have lots of pictures on that page too.

Here is a link to lodging. I would probably point people to Stockman's Casino.

As far as costs go, it might be tough to "officially" charge people and award prizes if the permit doesn't come through.

The hope is to collect enough donations from manufacturers, dealers, and hopefully Bombardier, to cover any and all prizes. With ANYTIME POWERSPORTS covering the BBQ, I don't see a need to charge for much. We may have to collect a participant fee of some type to cover something like insurance, but this is in no way going to be a money making thing. Anything that's charged will be as little as possible, so we should be able to keep that low key if the permit doesn't happen.

We don't have to charge people at all for the poker run, simply ask for "donations" that happen to go towards the charity. In exchange for the donation, they get a set of 5 cards to comemorate there donation. If someone doesn want to make a donation, they don't get the "comemorative" cards
