Just got back from Little Sahara, OK - slipping clutch
#11
i run on pavement every thursday at the drag strip and every type of synthetic i have tried made my clutch slip. the owners manual says NO SYNTHIC OIL.after market clutches are good ,but they will get hot after awhile of hard ridding. i went back with factory, but thats just what i like.the only problems i'm having is keeping my head torqued.

The manual says NO SYNTHETIC OIL because they will make the clutch slip. The clutch slips with conventional oil when riden hard at high revs. I need heavy springs to kill this problem, and was just wondering if the same heavy springs are heavy enough to keep the clutch from slipping with synthetic oil too. Most people here seem to agree that synthetics can be used in conjunction with heavy springs from Pami.
I'm not saying I will use synthetic, just want to know if I can. I use it in other bikes that are not liquid cooled because it lubricates better and holds up better to heat. I too change my DS oil frequently, because I ride hard and in dirty conditions where contamination is always an issue. I doubt I use synthetic in it because it would cost me a fortune due the 4 quart capacity of the DS's dry sump.

I just did the clutch springs this weekend and the pull was only slighty harder. Definitely not Popeye forearm type of pull.
By the way, thank you to Don. I ordered the springs on Monday, got them on Thursday via priority mail had them in on Saturday. Also had to replace the grab bar, ordered from PRM on Monday and it arrived Saturday via FedEx Home Ground Delivery. Nothing like ordering parts from companies on the other side of the country and having them in under a week with no loss of ride time!
Oh, and my dealer talked me into the new Bombardier synthetic oil, it hurt to pay $10 a quart but I figured I'd try it. Rode hard after the install of the springs and synthetic and no slipping to report.
