I think I may be screwed for Memorial weekend- My oil light came on today and won't go out. I pulled the oil filter off and opened the bleeder screw and when I turn the motor over I got nothing! my oil reservoir is topped off properly but no circulation. I've heard that the mechanisim that drive the pump is deep in the motor and the case will have to be split to see what the problem is - I'm so bumed out- I was looking forward to next weekend. If anyone has a manual and can check to see if the case really has to be split to check the gear -please let me know.
thanks

All oil pump service is accessbile under the clutch cover. Supply pump, pressure regulator, and return pump can be removed and installed with motor still in bike. just remove the clutch first, and then you can get to them.
Good luck.

before you take anything apart, make sure the oil line coming from the res is delivering oil - there is a screen where it attaches to the reservoir, make sure it is not clogged.

hightower - thank you! I so don't wanna pull the motor out and yes I've checked the supply hose running to the motor - I just drained about 3 quarts of new oil from it.

At second glance, the regulator is located in the Magneto side of the crankcase, and looks like the case has to be split to access it.
It is merely a spring and a ball, doubtful this is the problem I would think. Even if it was stuck open, I'd think you would still get something out of the blead screw, with low pressure being the real problem.

Sounds like you sheared one on the 2 pins in the primary oil pump......or maybe damaged the plastic drive gear
Let me know what you find
I have new extra pimary oil pump & shaft(no plastic gear).......if it gets down to crunch time

I was finally able to get a shop manual so I'll be tearing into it tonight and I'll let you know. Thanks for the offer I'll see what I need.
