Got it jetted. Now I need some advice!
#1
I have my jetted and it started right up without a problem. Idle is good. I took it for a ride and in 2nd gear going up a hill, it just pops and cracks until I let off the throttle. I read the trouble shooting and adjusted the needle down to see if it helps. I started on the third notch and am on the first now. Still the same symptoms. I took hightowers advice from other threads and messed with the mixture screw. Turned it till it bogged both ways and went in the middle. I am running a 190 jet. I have a WB slip on and a K&N filter. Maybe need to go a jet size down? Any insight to this newbie will be appreciated. Thanks.

More than likely, the main jet you're using is too rich. Hard stumbles like that are from richness (providing no mistakes were made and everyhting is back together right, with no pinched off tank breather). I use the 195 main and I'm lid-free, and my Yoshimura pipe really flows mega air too. I'm pulling so much air this way I had to go up to the 195, but if I was to put the airbox lid back on, the bike would not run under load - even on flat ground.
One quick check, before rejetting, is take the lid off and go for a run. If the stumble is gone, you were just too rich, but if its still there then something is wrong somewhere.
If you wanna run lid-free, follow stage 3 instructions in the kit, if you wanna keep the lid, follow stage 1. I would say the 180 main will probably be about right if you keep the lid.
The idle mixture screw controls fuel/air ratio at idle only, and causes popping after letting off the throttle if its set wrong. After you get your main jet and needle set right, re-adjsut the idle mixture again.

Put your needle back to the third notch. You are going to end up fighting too many things.
Did you see the article in Dirt Wheels on jetting from a couple months back?
The air box idea is a good one. I take my air box lid off when I go to Sand Mt. and sometimes put it on when back home. That air box lid probably works the same as 1/2 of a jet size or about 2000' elevation. IMO

Hey, can someone tell me how to get the needle out of the slide on the stock carborator? I need to change my clip position, and I can't get it out. Also, what is the air mixture screw set at, in stock form, and where is it?
